Enabling a Madman: George Bush and American Amnesia

by Reggie, Contributing Editor, TvNewsLIES.org

It just doesn’t stop. With painful consistency, there always is a new effrontery, a new attack on the Constitution, and a new slap in our collective faces. And every day, the American public responds largely in silent quiescence, seemingly unperturbed and indifferent to the insults and abuses being hurled at them from the man who reigns supreme in the White House.

And with this apathy, the people of the United States offer aid and comfort to their greatest enemies from within, and unwittingly give tacit approval to a madman and his boss.

I refuse to give total credit to Bush himself for his actions. The man does not have the intelligence, insight or experience to personally inflict all the damage done by his administration. However, for the sake of simplicity, I will refer to George Bush as the major culprit involved in the crimes against the nation and the world.. In fact, responsibility lies with the entire cadre of neocons and delusional managers who placed a sociopath in the White House and allowed him to play a role he was ill equipped to handle.

Therefore, just consider what George Bush managed to slip past a sleeping public in just the past few days: First, he vetoed legislation that would ban the CIA from using harsh interrogation methods such as water boarding “to break suspected terrorists,” Never mind the Geneva Conventions, never mind US military law, never mind the danger to our own military personnel at the hands of a future enemy. Never mind, because the wimpish Congress will go along without a murmur.

And never mind because the American public, if they know about it at all, will very soon forget.

Then consider that just today the arrogant, self-aggrandizing President of the United States issued another record-breaking signing statement, adding to the more than 750 of his administration. This time Bush declared his right to open mail under emergency conditions, contrary to existing law and contradicting the bill he had just signed.

Hey, people…. That’s about opening YOUR mail….contrary to existing law. But never mind, because the American public, if they know about it at all, will very soon forget.

After all, they’ve forgotten so many other crimes for which this administration is not accountable. Here, at TvNewsLIES.org, we’ve been writing about these crimes for years, as have so many other concerned investigative news sites. In doing so, we have enlarged the proverbial choir and increased the murmur of discontent. But in the long run we have failed.

We have completely failed to stir America to the point of outrage that would have resulted in massive protests in major countries around the world. And that’s because, despite all they learn about the criminal behavior of their government, Americans forget.

And by forgetting, they aid and abet the Bush administration as it destroys the fabric of American life and liberty.

Take a moment to explore a fractional realm of American amnesia as it relates to the past seven year.

Think about some of the crimes that far too few Americans remember:

Hey Raul, Find Those Cuban Oil Reserves!

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

Wanna lift nearly five decades of embargo? Wanna make the US your best friend? Wanna take photos of you and Georgie holding hands and smiling like lovers? Get those oil reserves on record, Raul. Time’s a-wasting.

Fidel’s a done deal. He’s old and sick and done for. As Brother Raul, you’re in charge and the barbs are out. Every US presidential candidate will take the Bush lead and aim at your brutal rule, your political prisoners, your embrace of communism, and your refusal to follow our extraordinary example of democracy and freedom.. And, for the record, Florida has a sizable number of electoral votes in play, Raul. Deal with it.

Better still, repent and be loved.

Take a lesson from the Saudis. They’re our best friends, Raul. Never mind that they sentenced a victim of a gang rape to 90 lashes for daring to speak to the press. Never mind that they convicted a woman of witchcraft after a confession obtained by torture. Never mind that they have no religious freedom at all, and never mind that just today the Saudi secret police arrested 37 men for …you guessed it….flirting!!!!

In case you’re wondering, the men are accused of wearing indecent clothes, playing loud music and dancing in order to attract the attention of girls, but remember, Raul, they’ve got the oil. And where there’s oil we can control, human rights are irrelevant. That’s the American way.

African AIDS and Bush Bull….

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

written by Reggie

Yesterday Tanzania, today Ghana…..six days to create a desperate legacy. What a farce.

The establishment media has hailed Bush’s whirlwind tour as successful promotion of his contribution to combating AIDS in many African nations. This is another case of both media and government deception and distortion. My latest article can be found by using the link to Reggie’s Commentary on the editorial menu at the top of our newly formatted home page:

It begins :

AFRICAN AIDS AND US BULL…..

It is a last legacy lap for George W. Bush, as he traipses through five African nations in six days, touting his great initiatives to combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and poverty in the ravished nations of Africa. One has to wonder what in the world he has to boast about.

For the record, it is important to understand that the 2003 President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) allotted 15 billion dollars to be spent globally over a five year period. to prevent 7 million new infections, treat 2 million people living with AIDS related illnesses, and provide care and support for 10 million persons affected by AIDS.

For the record as well, consider that in Sub-Saharan Africa alone, nearly 23 million people are victims of this pandemic.

And understand that the Bush war machine spends more than that the entire PEPFAR budget every month and a half to sustain its occupation of Iraq….

…But, as usual, the devil is in the details. The largely unreported story is that the Bush HIV/AIDS policy is a devastating failure motivated by right wing religious ideology.

2007 - Look Back in Anger !!!

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

Reg, Contributing Editor, TvNewsLIES.org

I just can’t do it this time, folks. I simply cannot wish you all a Happy New Year with a straight face and a hopeful heart. The words no longer make any sense at all, not after seven years of descending every so consistently into Bushco Hell. I no longer believe in the good wishes we traditionally exchange at this time of year and I no longer can summon up the hypocrisy needed to pretend that 2008 will be an iota better for any of us than any of the other years of this murderous regime. .

In fact, I am dead certain it would take a miracle to have anything close to a really Happy New Year. And I do not, I absolutely do not believe in miracles.

I also believe it would take a miracle for many people to understand that my anger and my frustration are based in tragic reality rather than partisan politics. Americans seem to be a people with a very short memory span and a very limited sense of outrage. I don’t know what it will take to shake them into any semblance of collective outrage or united action. I do know however, that I am angrier at the close of this year than at the end of any other year that has passed.

As you might well imagine, I am furious with the usual suspects: the corporate thugs, the PNAC warmongers and the religious fanatics who have wreaked such irreparable havoc on us all. TVNL has raged against what they have done to destroy the lives of so many.. But this time around I am ever more unforgiving in my despair and pessimism because of what has NOT been done by those who could have and should have lived up to the promise of change
.
It was a year of stunning inaction, during which so much that might have been done, and that could have been done, was NOT done, 2007 was heralded as a year of hope and progress. It was not. At year’s end, the crimes of the Bush administration still were business as usual. At year’s end, every outrage against the nation and the world remained uninvestigated and unpunished.

And by the year’s end, members of both parties had joined forces to do nothing at all that might lead to a Happy New Year for anyone..

Just think about it for a minute. Here are some of the issues that could have been dealt with in 2007 and are OFF THE TABLE for any legislative action as I write. Even if every one of them had failed to pass a divided Congress, in the very least, the facts finally would have been placed in the public arena. In the very least, they would not have been swept under the proverbial rug of our shamefully intimidated and cowardly elected legislators.

As 2008 begins, here are SOME of the issues that have endangered our democracy and the lives of so many around the world. For all of 2007, there was no action, nor were there any plans to:

Impeach  George W. Bush and Dick Cheney
• End the illegal and immoral wars against Iraq and Afghanistan
• Challenge the lies about a nuclear buildup in Iran
• Investigate what really happened on 9/11
• Repeal the Patriot Act
• Investigate official misconduct by Alberto Gonzalez
• Investigate the outing of CIA operative Valerie Plame
• Charge those who allowed the torture of Iraqis
• Investigate rendition and torture of detainees
• Close Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay Prisons
• Challenge the abuse of signing statements by George Bush
• Investigate the administration’s spying on Americans before 9/11
• Challenge the constitutionality of the Military Commissions Act
• Challenge directives giving George Bush dictatorial powers
• Demand accountability for billions misspent and ‘lost’ in Iraq
• Demand accountability for billions paid to private contractors
• Expose the influence of PNAC members on US foreign policy
• Challenge the lies to minimize the dangers of global warming
• Restore the constitutional division of church and state
• Protect a woman’s right to privacy
• Restore habeas corpus and the Fourth Amendment

…and on and on and on…

So, where is the sincerity in wishing anyone a Happy New Year, when it is so painfully apparent that it will be a lousy year for so many once again? The economy is tanking, gas prices are going through the roof, tens of millions of Americans are without health insurance, and a half gallon of orange juice is somewhere around four dollars. China owns us, the dollar is worthless, Pakistan is imploding, the massacres in Darfur go on unabated, Israel is building hundreds of new settlements in the West Bank. Tens of thousands of Katrina victims are still suffering, US military deaths in Iraq have topped 3900 and we’ll never get the real numbers of maimed and wounded of our kids or Iraqi or Iraqi civilians.

And George Bush has not yet given up on the idea of bombing Iran.

I know, I know…..look for the silver lining, - after all it’s a new year and there’s always the hope that things will get better. No way.

I honestly wish it were different. I wish the reality of where we are, and what his happening was not fading from the public conscience. I wish that the mainstream media were not controlled by their corporate masters and would report the news with some journalistic integrity. I wish, I wish, but wishing won’t make it so.

I don’t know what will. But make-believe is out this year. I can’t do it.

Please forgive.

Step Right Up, It’s Time for the Cirque du Bush at Annapolis!

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

By Reg, Contributing Editor, TvNewsLIES.org.

Geez, I do hope that at least they have lots of music and cotton candy and crackerjacks. That’s about all they’ll have to offer, if the performance is not to be a total waste of time.. The Bush Cirque at Annapolis is up and running and we’re all invited to watch the show. So now, here they go, performing all the tricks they’ve practiced for years. Hurry and get your tickets to watch the nonsense begin.

It’s the Bushco, last-minute, save-your-legacy photo op: after seven years, a make believe moment meant to assure the world that he gives a damn about peace in the Middle East. It’s an absolute circus, a farcical conference of forty nations that looks real and looks sincere and is so damned foolish as to be laughable. But, then again, it might look good in the Bush Library when this tragic term is over, so go for it. Get the Israelis and the Arab envoys on their individual trapezes and let them swing away. What fun, what nonsense, but then again, what great PR and what super headlines. But, in reality, it’s all a futile exercise in total bullshit.

Here’s the rub: all of the acrobats are swinging through the air, determined never, ever to catch one another in mid flight. The Israelis know they will never give up land or settlements for peace. The Palestinians fly with pipe dreams of the right of return and a land of their own, but refuse to denounce violence. The other Muslim nations pretend they can make autonomous choices, and act as if every movement in their performance is not directed totally by the White House..

The final orchestration will come from Condoleezza Rice. She will try, without success, to force the Arab nations to agree to everything Israel demands, in return for protection from the uninvited villains, Iran and Hamas. There will be carrots and sticks, prodding the performers to do the bidding of their host, and their will be all the illusions and smoke and mirrors that make circuses so much fun. And in the end, everyone will go home, and nothing will change.

When it’s all over, as usual, Israel will blame the intransigence of the Arabs, and the Arabs will blame the arrogance of the Israelis, and everyone will get more weapons from the US to kill one another in greater and greater numbers. After all, never forget that war is profitable, and peace is dull. But let the show begin, so that George Bush can pretend to be a statesman for the history books. In truth, he is far more the buffoon and the fool. But, the show must go on, and the media will report that progress appears to be taking place. That’s their job, and they do it so well.

Watch the coverage. It will look so real and so sincere and so hopeful. But, in fact, the acrobats will all be swinging through the air, and there will be no nets to catch them when they fall. There will only be more bombs, more rocket attacks and more warfare. George Bush has no clue as to what it might take to move even an inch forward in the region. It takes far more than a conference hosted by a warmonger who sees no wrong in illegal invasions and murderous occupations. Far, far, more.

Never mind. Get your bag of popcorn and your can of soda, and take a seat in the peanut gallery. Here come the clowns.

Barry Bonds vs. Howard Krongard: And the Winner Is…

Friday, November 16th, 2007

Reg, Contributing Editor, TvNewsLIES.org.

…and the winner is Howard, J, Krongard, - a name barely known to most Americans, and someone who remains barely known, thanks to the corporate US media. Here’s the competition:

A top story this week in the news: Barry Bonds was indicted on charges of four counts of perjury and one count of obstruction of justice. Bonds stands accused of lying under oath to a grand jury about his use of steroids. If he is found guilty on all counts, Bonds faces up to fifteen years in prison.

Barry Bonds is obviously a menace to us all. He apparently poses a great threat to all our lives and to the safety of the nation. Let us all hope that justice is done and the full force of the law is brought down on this dangerous criminal.

Non story this week in the news: Howard J. Krongard, US State Department Inspector General lied under oath to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform It seems that federal prosecutors have been looking into allegations of waste, fraud, and abuse in Iraq by Blackwater, USA. And, surprise, surprise, Krongard was on the carpet for interfering with the investigation.

And guess what else? Someone found out that Howard’s brother, Alvin (Buzzy) Krongard, sits on the Advisory Board of Blackwater. When asked about this, Howard told the House Committee that Buzzy had NO connection to Blackwater. He knew NOTHING, not a thing about this, even after a call to his brother. But, but, but after a recess, Krongard knew the jig was up. He admitted that it was true, Buzzy was a member of the Board, but had never, ever told him about it.

Small problem: Brother Buzzy called the Committee and told them that he had, indeed, told brother Howard of his connection to Blackwater. Uh oh. That’s perjury. Howard Krongard LIED UNDER OATH about a matter relevant to an ongoing investigation. Perjury is a crime. Wanna bet nothing happens to the man?

Howard Krongard is obviously not a menace to anyone. He apparently poses no threat to our lives or to the safety of the nation. Let’s all hope that Chairman Henry Waxman doesn’t look too closely into “allegations of perjury” after Thanksgiving, as he has promised to do. And let us all hope that Krongard, like Scooter Libby, Karl Rove and other Bushco criminals continue to escape prosecution and punishment of any sort.

Barry Bonds is allegedly a criminal; Howard Krongard is a servant of the people.

After all, there is something to be said about consistency and cronyism in a ‘time of war.’ And, oh yes, never forget that everything changed after 9/11.

Could Musharraf’s Actions Be a Dry Run for Bushco?

Monday, November 5th, 2007

A question posed by Reggie, Contributing Editor, TvNewsLIES.org

Does any thinking person really believe that the President of Pakistan is able to make ANY political or military decision without the approval, if not the actual direction of the US Government?

The answer is so damned obvious as to be childish: NO, HE CANNOT… because US dollars protect Pervez Musharraf and keep him in power. The 700 MILLION dollars in economic and military assistance the US gave to Musharraf this year alone are most definitely not an altruistic gift that comes without strings. The 800 million dollars scheduled to reach the Pakistani government in 2008 will guarantee that Musharraf continues to do exactly what the Bush administration wants. It is not an exaggeration to suggest that President/General Musharraf would not last a day in office without US aid and protection. Not a single day.

In fact, the financial ties between the US and Pakistan create a cooperative, albeit symbiotic relationship between the two nations. In the two years after 2001, US aid to Pakistan increased by a whopping $ 224 million! Aid of this sort is guaranteed so long as the leadership plays ball with the US and supports its foreign policy to the letter. That is standard foreign policy operation, and is no different for all the countries that formed the coalition of the ˜willing” in Bush’s war against Iraq.

But not all goes as planned, as Bushco never seems to understand. The recent conflict over Musharraf’s retention of both a military uniform and a political role has stirred up opposition that this administration was not about to tolerate. Musharraf is an absolutely essential figure in the control that the US exerts of Pakistan. His power, however titled, must be maintained, but a victory in the January, 2008 elections could not be guaranteed because of rising opposition from a whole spectrum of political and ideological groups within the country.

So, the US arranged for the return to Pakistan of former Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto. She would run for office via an agreement with Musharraf and continue her sycophantic support of the Bush administration. Bhutto’s self exile following charges of major corruption notwithstanding, the US was going to ensure the elections of its purchased puppets in the January elections. Bush strategically had seen to it that Bhutto received full amnesty and that all criminal charges against her would be dropped.

As it turned out, Bhutto was welcomed by a violent attack by those who opposed her return that killed scores of her supporters. At the same time, Islamic militants were out to depose Musharraf, and supporters of democracy within Pakistan were making loud noises of opposition as well. Among these were defenders of Supreme Court Justice Iftikar Chaudhary who was fired and placed under house arrest after resisting attempts to curb the independence of the Pakistani judiciary.

So, as things got really out of hand, our dictator-ally in charge of a nuclear bomb found himself in some real political turmoil. In response, Musharraf suspended the Pakistani constitution and as well as all civil rights throughout his country, and established martial law in a desperate attempt to hold on to power.

According to the AP
, Musharraf’ restrictions covered:

· Protection of life and liberty.

· The right to free movement.

· The right of detainees to be informed of their offense and given access to lawyers.

· Protection of property rights.

· The right to assemble in public.

·  The right to free speech.

· Equal rights for all citizens before law and equal legal protection.

· Media coverage of suicide bombings and militant activity is curtailed by new rules. Broadcasters also face a three-year jail term if they “ridicule” members of the government or armed forces.

To top it off, Musharraf announced plans to postpone new elections for a full year!

DOESN’T THIS ALL SOUND TOO DAMN FAMILIAR????????

Since 9/11, so many of these same rights have been eroded right here in the United States! We have lost our precious right of habeas corpus and the protection of the Fourth Amendment. Our government has regularly breached Constitutional and International Law with impunity. Both through the passage of actual laws such as the Military Commissions Act of 2006, and by the abuse of Presidential Directives and Signing Statements, the US Constitution has been gradually and successfully eviscerated by this administration.

Not only have the rights of Americans been violated and restricted, but plans have been put in place for future suspension of what remains of checks and balances among the branches of our government, and for the declaration of martial law in this country, exactly as it now has been installed in Pakistan.

Which brings me to the logical question posed by this article:

Could the events in Pakistan be a testing ground for what Bushco might be planning in the US to avoid the consequences of fair and democratic elections here in 2008?

Understand that none of Musharraf’s actions could have been implemented without the approval of the Bush administration. Understand as well that Condy Rice has announced that these actions will not mean the discontinuation of aid to the government of Pakistan.

She told reporters, “ We have to be very cognizant of the fact that some of the assistance that has been going to Pakistan is directly related to the counter-terrorism mission…” In other words, anything and everything is acceptable in the name of fighting terror!

Remember that.

And then consider the possibility that a successful return to total dictatorship in Pakistan would bode well for those who are loathe to relinquish the power they have worked so hard to acquire in this criminal administration. The only differences between the actions of the two governments are the relative transparency and speed of their destruction of democracy. Musharraf openly took over in a day. Bushco has secretly eaten away at our freedoms for nearly seven years.

But then again, there is one more major difference. Pakistani lawyers and other protesters, much like the brave Buddhist priests of Myanmar, have taken to the streets. Thousands are being beaten, gassed and arrested as I write, but they will not sit quietly and allow their government to destroy the democracy they crave without a fight. That just doesn’t happen here in very large numbers, and when it does, the media ignore those who turn out and in the end, no one really cares and absolutely nothing changes.

Maybe, just maybe, this is a dry run to see what happens when democracy is sacrificed in the name of national security. Maybe, just maybe the international response to the events in Pakistan will be a test of such reaction should it happen here.

And maybe, if it happens, Americans will quietly pass across the subtle divide into full dictatorship without a murmur. And maybe not. Maybe, just maybe, they, too will stand up and be counted.

Judging from the past few years, it’s hard to tell. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Bill Maher: Gatekeeper or Coward?

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

By Reggie, Contributing Editor, TvNewsLIES.org

Soon after 9/11, Bill Maher lost his job on mainstream television for his remark about the relative cowardice of the alleged hijackers. I have to believe that he’s been warned that any further discussion of 9/11 that does not follow the official Bush/PNAC line will mean the end of his career. It seems that Bill Maher, like so many others, has his price.’

Maher is a comedian who hosts a weekly show on HBO that includes commentary and discussion about relevant political topics. He has no qualms about broaching very controversial matters and is an equal opportunity host to people across the political spectrum who apparently may discuss any issue OTHER THAN 9/11.

Bill Maher has unequivocally labeled as fools all people who raise any questions about the official story of 9/11. He has made his own acceptance of the Bush/PNAC line the last word on the topic. Anyone who would dare to differ is an idiot. Period.

Maher’s histrionics this past Saturday night - running into the audience to personally oust a non violent, albeit somewhat disruptive 9/11 protester - was one for the record books. It seems that he will talk to anyone, no matter how extreme or controversial, from Ann Coulter on, but has zero tolerance for anyone who questions the official explanation of what caused the towers to collapse.

Maher went so far as to say that on this single topic, of all the controversial outrages of this administration… on this ONE topic, he agrees with George Bush. Those were his exact words. Strange, but I don’t recall the President ever offering an explanation of how the towers came down in an average of ten seconds. Maybe Maher had a private audience at the White House and knows something the rest of us do not. Sure.

You have to wonder why he would totally close the door to any possible discussion of the one event that made all the other horrors possible. Duh….

There were a number of scenarios he might have followed to deal with the protester. For starters, he could have offered to invite someone of repute to come on the show and present his or her case at a later date. That would have quieted the protester as well as others in the audience who were angered by Maher’s dismissal of anyone and everyone who dares to doubt the official lies offered by Bushco. His ridicule of the 9/11 Truth Movement is way out of character for someone so willing to call all the other Bush lies what they are….and you have to wonder who got to him and whose backside he’s covering.

One can only conclude that Bill Maher is either a coward, sacrificing principle to protect his job, or a 9/11 gatekeeper of the first order, working to keep any open discussion of 9/11 from ever reaching the airwaves.

This is not about what Maher believes or does not believe about 9/11. It’s about his absolute refusal to consider that there might be another side to the discussion, especially in light of all the evidence to that effect that has been unearthed by scholars and scientists. It is about his coloring members of the Truth Movement idiots and nut jobs. There has to be more to the story than what appears on the surface. It really makes no sense at all.

The attacks on 9/11 remain the single remaining taboo topic forbidden by all of the mainstream media. They alone made all the ensuing horrors possible - from the Patriot Act and NSA spying to the wars against Iraq and Afghanistan. By placing a wall of silence around any discussion of 9/11 Bill Maher now has established himself as either an official gatekeeper or a coward.

Either role is despicable.

And the Nobel Booby Prize Goes to George W. Bush (and his supporters)!

Friday, October 12th, 2007

Nominated by Reggie, Contributing Editor, TvNewsLIES.org

Just think about it: Some of this week’s awards from the Nobel Committee went to people who must seem like the anti Christ to our pretentiously pious President, George W. Bush. For starters, the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine went to Mario R. Capecchi, Martin J. Evans and Oliver Smithies who were recognized for a series of ground-breaking discoveries concerning embryonic stem cells! OH MY GAWD!

And, of course, this morning, the darkest of dark news descended on the White House when Bush’s nemesis Al Gore shared the Nobel Peace Prize with the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change! ARMAGEDDON IS SURELY UPON US!

Give the man credit, he did his best. The very first veto issued by this President of incredible scientific understanding greatly limited federal funding for stem cell research. In his speech to the nation, this paragon of ethical governance explained that he could not support legislation that allowed researchers to “manipulate human life and violate human dignity.”  This self-proclaimed war president deeply values human life and never, ever violates its dignity…we all know that. WAY TO GO, GEORGE!

And then there are his efforts to counter the opinions of experts who have warned for decades about the dangers of polluting the environment. Sigh. George W. Bush has a steadfast and unparalleled record of ignoring, doctoring and manipulating scientific evidence and supporting corporate greed over the health and welfare of the nation.

Just last month we learned that the number of EPA prosecutions, new investigations and total convictions of criminal cases against polluters dropped off by more than a third during the Bush administration. That sort of summarizes the Bush approach to the environment, and clarifies the rarefied thinking that went into his actions to reduce restrictions of toxins in our water systems and lighten regulations on emissions by coal burning power plants.

And wasn’t it just special that this enlightened President ordered the EPA not to conduct any studies that may conflict with the administration’s agenda to pander to corporations at the expense of the health and safety of the public? GOLLY GEE, SURPRISE, SURPRISE!

Okay, fair is fair. If we applaud one side, let’s give the other a nod as well. After all, we now live in a country in which war is peace and Fascism is democracy, good is evil and up is down. Nothing is as is was and nothing at all is as it should be. So why not enter the looking glass reality of George W. Bush and acknowledge what he has managed to ‘accomplish’ in so short a time?

In that pursuit, I hereby name George W. Bush, along with all of those who have supported his delusions, Booby Laureates of 2007! Should there ever be a Nobel Booby Award, our present President must be given that award.

No man in recent history deserves this more.

Five Easy Pieces to Iran

Sunday, September 9th, 2007

A Warning from Reggie, Contributing Editor, TvNewsLIES.org

The Jigsaw to Armageddon

Yeah, folks, you can bet the ranch: we’re going in. I’ve heard all the arguments from the nay sayers, so let that go. We are going in.

This is deja  vu time, for sure, as we look back on the months before Shock and Awe, when so many of us tried to warn the nation about the coming catastrophe in Iraq. But those of us who shouted went unheard and those of us who marched in protest went unseen. Yet in the end we were right on the mark.

And so, we’ll try again. This time, we’ll set out five easy pieces of a doomsday jigsaw puzzle that easily can be assembled if you take the time to do so. As in any such puzzle, the separate parts might be interesting, but not significant in themselves. But once assembled, the full picture emerges, where none could be seen before.

Each piece of this puzzle contains disturbing evidence that Bushco intends to unleash a massive, and possibly nuclear attack on Iran in the very near future. Examined separately, the pieces might seem unsettling but not calamitous. But when all of the pieces are viewed in correct perspective, when they interlock to form a complete picture, the final image is undeniable:

The puzzle we have pieced together reveals a very frightening picture: It is very plausible that in a very short time, most assuredly before the next presidential election, the murderous men in charge of US foreign policy may unleash Armageddon on us all.

Five Easy Pieces:

PIECE ONE: The Neocons.

  • Between 1997 and 2000, the founders of the Project for a New American Century laid out their plans for the overthrow of Saddam Hussein and the need for US military domination of the Middle East.
  • In a 1996 letter to President Bill Clinton, they wrote: The only acceptable strategy is one that eliminates the possibility that Iraq will be able to use or threaten to use weapons of mass destruction. In the near term, this means a willingness to undertake military action as diplomacy is clearly failing. In the long term, it means removing Saddam Hussein and his regime from power. That now needs to become the aim of American foreign policy.
  • In 2000, their treatise on Rebuilding America’s Defenses stated that “the United States must retain sufficient forces able to rapidly deploy and win multiple simultaneous large-scale wars.”
  • In a letter to President George W. Bush immediately after 9/11, they wrote:even if evidence does not link Iraq directly to the attack, any strategy aiming at the eradication of terrorism and its sponsors must include a determined effort to remove Saddam Hussein from power.
  • And after the 2000 theft of office, more than a dozen members of PNAC, including Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle and others, assumed high level positions in the Bush administration. To this day, many of the PNAC neocons continue to be largely responsible for formulating American foreign policy.

PIECE TWO: The Warning

  • On February 1st, 2007, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee held a hearing on Iraq that attracted little public attention and that received hardly any mainstream media coverage. Testifying before the committee was Zbigniew Brzezinski, the prominent political scientist, geostrategist and statesman who had served as United States National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter
  • A long time critic of the war in Iraq, Brzezinski referred to the Iraq invasion as “a historic, strategic, and moral calamity, undertaken under false assumptions, [and] undermining America’s global legitimacy.” But far more important than this characterization of Bush’s ˜war of choice” was his unmistakable warning about what was in the works.
  • • The official transcript of Brzezinski’s testimony includes this devastating warning:

If the United States continues to be bogged down in a protracted bloody involvement in Iraq, the final destination on this downhill track is likely to be a head-on conflict with Iran and with much of the world of Islam at large. A plausible scenario for a military collision with Iran involves Iraqi failure to meet the benchmarks; followed by accusations of Iranian responsibility for the failure; then by some provocation in Iraq or a terrorist act in the U.S. blamed on Iran; culminating in a “defensive” U.S. military action against Iran that plunges a lonely America into a spreading and deepening quagmire eventually ranging across Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

Was anyone listening?

PIECE THREE: Getting Ready

  • An ominous segment of the PNAC treatise states that the preferred weapon for punitive raids is the cruise missile, supplemented by stealthy strike aircraft and longer-range Air Force strike aircraft. Carrier aircraft are most useful in sustaining a campaign begun with missiles and stealth strike aircraft, indicating that a surface action group capable of launching several hundred cruise missiles is the most valuable naval presence in the Gulf.
  • On February 25th, 2007 a journalist for the British newspaper The Telegraph reported from on board the USS Eisenhower en route to the Persian Gulf. In an article entitled American Armada Prepares to Take on Iran,  Damien McElroy described the carrier as “Four and a half acres of American power in the Arabian sea,”
  • On June 13, 2007, news services reported that another carrier had joined other U.S. carrier groups in Gulf. The nuclear-powered USS Enterprise, which became part of a rotating carrier presence in the region, is the longest naval vessel in the world and carries 66 aircraft.
  • And, for icing on the cake, - on September 10, 2007 the US announced it’s intentions to build a military base on the Iraq-Iran border. According to the report, “The push also includes construction of fortified checkpoints on the major highways leading from the Iranian border to Baghdad and the installation of X-ray machines and explosives-detecting sensors at the only formal border crossing between Iran and Iraq.”
  • Then came that really scary headline at FOX News [sic] on September 12th : US Officials Begin Crafting Iran Bombing Plan. That story was sandwiched between the Petraeus testimony raising Iran above Al Qaeda as the villain in Iraq and George Bush’s corroboration of the new bogey man in his speech to the nation.

Do the math.

PIECE FOUR: Nuclear madness

  • Background: The first of the three documents which made up the post 9/11 U.S. nuclear posture was delivered to the. Congress by the DOD in January, 2002. Titled the U.S. Nuclear Posture Review (NPR), the document authorized the potential use of nuclear weapons. in various contingencies, including against non-nuclear weapons states and in response to conventional weapons.
  • In other words, this official declaration of US military policy states that the United States may use nuclear weapons as it would any other weapon.
  • Reality check: On September 5th, 2007, six nuclear warheads on cruise missiles were mistakenly carried on a flight from North Dakota to Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. Please, please, for the sake of this nation and the world, try to understand the significance of this ˜accidental” move. Larry Johnson raises a very vital question in his article at TMP CAFE. He explains that Barksdale AFB is not simply a landing field. Rather, it is a major jumping off point for US operations in the Middle East, and wonders whether this story might not have been leaked by military personnel concerned about plans for staging a nuclear attack against Iran.
  • Johnson writes: What is certain is that the pilots of this plane did not just make a last minute decisionto strap on some nukes and take them for a joy ride. We need some tough questions and clear answers. What the hell is going on?

What the hell, for sure. Someone was willing to violate the long standing cold war treaty that prohibited the transporting of armed missiles by air.

Wonder why.

PIECE FIVE: The Hype

  • We’ve all been there and done that. In 2002 we had the White House Iraq Group writing copy for the complicit corporate media to sell the war to a terrified and vulnerable public It worked then, and may well work again as a new campaign is under way to beat the drums for a new war.
  • At TvNewsLIES.org we thought an attack against Iran would begin sooner, but apparently the thugs in Washington still have some glitches to work out. But it’s time to get the lap dogs in the media to soften up the public for a new adversary. Bush/Cheney/PNAC has run out of bogey men for the moment, and it’s getting too close to an election which might just take away their momentum.
  • • How about this: The August 23rd, 2007 issue of New Yorker Magazine ran a story saying that Dick Cheney has given orders for a campaign for war with Iran in the week after Labor Day. The campaign purportedly will be coordinated with the American Enterprise Institute, Murdoch’s new acquisitions - FOX and the Wall Street Journal - as well as the PNAC mouthpiece, Weekly Standard, and other media outlets. It will be heavy sustained assault on the airwaves, claims the reporter, and is designed to knock public sentiment into a position from which a war can be maintained.
  • The information came from Barnett Rubin, a well known and highly respected Afghanistan expert at New York University who received corroboration concerning the accuracy of the piece from someone at a neocon think tank.

Watch for it and see where it goes this time around

Placing the Pieces

Let’s see, now. Is it possible to piece together these five puzzle pieces and end up with a lovely picture of peace and harmony in the world? Sure it is. On the other hand, is it not only possible, but far more probable that the image on the completed puzzle board will actually be one of horrific disaster?

At this moment, I don’t really care whether or not anyone out there has bought into the official story of 9/11 or not. I really don’t care if you are convinced that anyone in power in the United States could actually orchestrate an attack on his or her own people.

I do care, however, that someone with decades of experience in government and a first hand look at the inside machinations of foreign policy has publicly warned us that a plausible scenario for a military collision with Iran involves a terrorist act in the U.S. blamed on Iran.

I do care that Presidential Directive 51, issued in May of 2007 gives George W. Bush full charge of every existing government agency in the event of any occurrence he personally deems ˜catastrophic.”

I do care that the Five Easy Pieces presented in this article include vital information that is factual and well documented and undisputed, yet are not considered newsworthy by our failed media.

I do care that the pieces appear to fit together easily, and that the image that is emerging scares me to death.

You might want to put the pieces together on your own and see what happens.

Peace and tranquility or Armageddon. You decide.

Note: Most sincere kudos to Webster Tarpley whose extraordinary talk at a recent meeting of 9/11- Ready for Mainstream inspired this article. His documented and detailed analysis of the danger of an imminent US attack on Iran has been incorporated into this simplified but equally dire warning.
