By "no one reads this", Jesse, I meant my comments, not so much your blog.

Marriage, as far as the government is concerned, is nothing but a legal contract. It confers certain rights. It's just a legal contract. The personal aspect of it is a totally separate matter.

There is absolutely no defensible or comprehensible legal basis for denying someone the right to enter such a legal contract based on the gender of the person they wish to enter the contract with.

The government has liked to outlaw and regulate gender discrimination. Well, opposition to gay marriage is nothing more than sanctioned gender discrimination.

When I'm in my worst of moods, I'd like to round up every asshole who favors that sort of thing, put them on a ship, and sink it.

Frankly, I don't see how standing in front of a minister can sanctify a marriage more than two people simply promising to love and be faithful to each other, regardless of the gender of the couple making that promise. As Dan Barker says in his book "Losing Faith in Faith," "A wedding is a public testimony for the sake of family and friends, society, and legality. But a marriage is a very personal thing."

It's unfortunate that we've come into the 21st century shadowed by a Dark Ages view of human rights.

I hate religion with a fury. And I hate hypocritical, bigoted religious people.

There is no legal basis for denying any type of person the right to marry. Everything I have known--equal protection under the law, all men are created equal, etc.--tells me the only thing motivating the anti-gay freaks is bigotry.

I have a related story to tell, but since no one reads this, I won't bother...
