Banning Trans Fats? Who is Behind This?

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

New York City just banned the use of trans fats in all food service establishments. Why? Why can’t I eat trans fats? Don’t get me wrong, I think trans fats are bad for you and I try not to have them. But I want to know why NYC disallowed me from eating trans fats when it still allows me to smoke (cigarettes are the only product ever marketed that when used as directed will kill you), eat aspartame (the most dangerous food on the market, drink fluoride (they actually put this rat poison in our drinking water) and wash (and brush my teeth) with sodium laureth sulfate and ammonium laureth sulfate (ALS/SLS will remove your protective lipids form your skin, absorb into your body and combine with other chemicals to form carcinogens.) I can’t eat trans fats but they will trick me into eating genetically modified food without even telling me!

I know enough to eat well when I have the will power to do so. If you want to help my stay healthy how about keeping pollutants out of my breathing air and leave the menu selection to me!

$Billions Spent to Ignore Food – Pharmaceuticals Vs. Farmaceuticals

Tuesday, December 5th, 2006

The pharmaceutical behemoth Pfizer announced that it is dropped development on a drug intended to raise good cholesterol levels. They already have a drug, widely prescribed, that is designed to lower bad cholesterol levels. Pfizer spent over a $billion to develop this new drug so that they can make multiple $billions on people with unhealthy levels of cholesterol.

Let me play Dr. Jesse for a moment and let me address this issue using research and real life clinical studies that date back centuries…eat more. That’s right, I said eat more and you can lower your bad cholesterol and raise your good cholesterol. The key is that you have to eat more of the right foods.

Garlic, raw and in pill form will lower your bad cholesterol as much if not more than Lipitor and it has no dangerous side effects (unless you consider bad breath dangerous!) Olive oil will raise your good cholesterol. There are many other natural foods that will bring your blood cholesterol levels to healthy levels but you can start by using garlic and olive oil. In the mean time cut back on the ice cream and cheese steaks.

For your information bad breath is not nearly as serious an issue as the possible adverse effects of a prescription drug like Lipitor:

Body as a Whole: Chest pain, face edema, fever, neck rigidity, malaise, photosensitivity reaction, generalized edema.

Digestive System: Nausea, gastroenteritis, liver function tests abnormal, colitis, vomiting, gastritis, dry mouth, rectal hemorrhage, esophagitis, eructation, glossitis, mouth ulceration, anorexia, increased appetite, stomatitis, biliary pain, cheilitis, duodenal ulcer, dysphagia, enteritis, melena, gum hemorrhage, stomach ulcer, tenesmus, ulcerative stomatitis, hepatitis, pancreatitis, cholestatic jaundice.

Respiratory System: Bronchitis, rhinitis, pneumonia, dyspnea, asthma, epistaxis.

Nervous System: Insomnia, dizziness, paresthesia, somnolence, amnesia, abnormal dreams, libido decreased, emotional lability, incoordination, peripheral neuropathy, torticollis, facial paralysis, hyperkinesia, depression, hypesthesia, hypertonia.

Musculoskeletal System: Arthritis, leg cramps, bursitis, tenosynovitis, myasthenia, tendinous contracture, myositis.

Skin and Appendages: Pruritus, contact dermatitis, alopecia, dry skin, sweating, acne, urticaria, eczema, seborrhea, skin ulcer.

Urogenital System: Urinary tract infection, hematuria, albuminuria, urinary frequency, cystitis, impotence, dysuria, kidney calculus, nocturia, epididymitis, fibrocystic breast, vaginal hemorrhage, breast enlargement, metrorrhagia, nephritis, urinary incontinence, urinary retention, urinary urgency, abnormal ejaculation, uterine hemorrhage.

Special Senses: Amblyopia, tinnitus, dry eyes, refraction disorder, eye hemorrhage, deafness, glaucoma, parosmia, taste loss, taste perversion.

Cardiovascular System: Palpitation, vasodilatation, syncope, migraine, postural hypotension, phlebitis, arrhythmia, angina pectoris, hypertension.

Metabolic and Nutritional Disorders: Peripheral edema, hyperglycemia, creatine phosphokinase increased, gout, weight gain, hypoglycemia.

Hemic and Lymphatic System: Ecchymosis, anemia, lymphadenopathy, thrombocytopenia, petechia.

The human body is not as poorly designed as the big drug companies want you to believe. We have survived on this planet for quite a while. The planed has sustained us fairly well through history. So the next time you feel compelled to run to the pharmacy try taking a detour to the farm first. Think about it!

EDITOR’S NOTE: I lowered my own blood pressure, cholesterol and trigliserides from dangerous levels to very safe levels…WITHOUT USING DRUGS! Diet and supplements did it for me!  I may drop dead later today but my blood tests will look just dandy!

Muslims Beware! BushCo Thrives on Collective Guilt

Monday, December 4th, 2006

I’ve heard it all and I’ve even caught myself echoing some of the thoughts myself (mostly after 9/11 when I really believed the official story)…”Islam is a radical religion and some of the radical Muslims are a danger to the world!” The message was readily absorbed by a population with very little knowledge of Islam and even less understanding of its practitioners.

There surely is some validity to the statement. There are radical Islamic people, perhaps even many radical Islamic people. Most people with any rationality were reviled by the extremism they witnessed in the beliefs of the Taliban or the rantings of Osama bin Laden. As westerners, we have no way understanding or accepting anyone radical enough to kill someone for simply expressing critical thoughts about their religion. We have no tolerance for people who treat women as if they were possessions to be owned and fully dominated. And, in fact, rational people should not feel comfortable about sharing a planet with such radical people. But let me remind you that there are other extremist who share our world as well…such as the fundamentalist Christians who want to tell everyone how to live their lives and who don’t care what they do or whom they hurt while they force their ways on others. And then there is the segment of Jewish radicals who actually openly admit that they and they alone are God’s chosen people and that Palestinians are not entitled to what they are entitled to; like a small strip of land in the Middle East over which they would gladly destroy the world.

So let me remind my Muslim hating countrymen and women who are being led towards bigotry and intolerance by George W. Bush, that only a generation ago, the Jews of Europe went through a experience similar to one that Americans are creating for the Muslims of the world. All Jews were targeted in an attempt to exterminate them because their actions and beliefs supposedly posed a threat to or offended others. Jews were different. Jews believed in a different God. And, surely, some Jews, as in all groups, were actually extreme in their lifestyle and some surely deserved to be derided. My Jewish grandmother used to say that Jews don’t need enemies because they had each other. By this she meant that every group had its wrongdoers and should look inward at itself, because there were those among her own people who triggered irrational and undeserved prejudices towards all Jews.. She understand that it was not the fault of every Jew that they were targeted collectively, and murdered by the millions.. In the same way, the behavior of those on the extreme fringe of Islam is being used as the excuse for targeting all Muslims around the world. Americans had better start realizing this.

The reality is that members of all radical religions are destroying this world and they all pose a threat to people who are not of their particular cult. Anyone who does not buy into their story automatically becomes one of “them” in this increasingly divided, increasingly radical and increasingly violent world. Maybe some Jews really did trigger Hitler’s anger and maybe some Muslims really did and still do trigger anger in Americans but let’s learn from history for a change. And using history’s lessons as a guideline maybe we can learn to take a closer look at events that trigger genocidal reactions. As in the case of the Jews during World War II, maybe the targets of public rage don’t actually warrant that rage at all.

In fact, while you’re at it, my fellow Americans, take a really close look at the most recent event that triggered your rage known as 9/11. You may just discover that your rage has been woefully misdirected by the very people who actually pulled that trigger in the first place! You may very well have been duped into hating an easy target: people who are different, people with a different God, and people who may have extremists among them. And maybe that hatred is so very wrong. Think about it!

Jewish People: The Human Shields Held Hostage by Israel

Sunday, December 3rd, 2006

Lets put the rhetoric coming from Iran and Israel into some perspective:

We hear a great deal of talk from Iran questioning the right of Israel to exist and we are now hearing Israel refer to Iran as pre-WWII Germany. To understand what is happening, it is important to examine what is actually happening in the region.  But that’s almost impossible.  There can be no open, honest discussion of Israel and its policies without the Jewish being used as metaphorical hostages. On the Iran -Israel counter accusations alone, it is obvious that the American media will never allow an open discussion that includes any criticism of Israel, nor will they consider the merits of anyone who dares to speak against the actions of the State of Israel.

Please keep these points in your mind as the American media spin the reality of that situation to conform to a particular bias:.

1. Iran is not threatening “Jews” nor are they questioning the right of “Jews” to exist. They are questioning the legitimacy of the decision by extra regional authorities to grant control of Palestine to the Jewish people. They question the legality and morality of the decision to do this.

2. As part of the argument that Iran is making, they cite the mistreatment of the Palestinian people by Israel and they cite the dozens of UN Security Council resolutions (not to mention the 30-40 unanimous resolutions that were vetoed by the US) that Israel has violated over the years. Click here for details on those violations.

3. Israel is not now and never was synonymous with the Jewish people. Israel is not a religion, it is a state. It is the state of Israel that is the target of Iran’s rhetoric and in most cases is the target of anger and outrage of people around the world. You can include me in that mix. And I, like most (not all) of the people who discuss Israel and the actions of the state of Israel, do not direct those comments to the Jewish people or Judaism at all.

4. Discussions about Israel are not discussions about Jews. They are political discussions.

On a personal note: I have often witnessed anti-Semitism. Most of the anti-Semitism I have witnessed took place in the work place in corporate America. Most of this anti-Semitism took place in my presence because I am an avowed atheist and I don’t happen to look as if I have any Jewish (among other) heritage. I actually had a bar mitzvah years before I went neutral as an adult.  I could not deal with the hypocrisy of religion so I decided to simply be a good person. I did not need an ancient book to tell me how to do this. The anti-Semitism that I witnessed came mostly from white Christian males in very powerful corporate positions. I wintessed it when I worked at computer firms, I saw it at the Associated Press, I saw it at Verisign/ Network Solutions and I saw itat many of the big wig happy hour sessions with fortune 100 clients over the years. It is everywhere. On the other hand, growing up Jewish I also witnessed bigotry by Jews every where I went. The word “shvartza” was used by so many people that I thought it was the real term used to describe black people. I saw everyone who was not Jewish treated as a second class citizen. I have seen prejudice from two sides of the aile, and let me tell you that it’s everywhere. We have enough of it in this world, so please don’t pretend it is not there when it is.  We have to get beyond the bigotry this time around.

We have to reach a point where we can discuss Israel, its government and its policies without falling back on accusations of anti-Semitism.  This is not about bigotry, it is about conflict and resolution.  Can we ever reach the point of looking at both sides of the unending and relentless hostility in the region without hearing about the victimization of the Jewish people?  Oddly enough, the debate is open and unhindered in Israel, where people are permitted to openly criticize their government and rail against the oppression they perceive in the region.

Let’s get to that point in the United States of America.  We have to be able to discuss the State of Israel, from every angle, openly and honestly,  without reverting to the ploy of using Jews as human shields.  Such emotional blackmail only serves to stand in the way of any progress and to ensure that the precarious situation between Israel and the Palestinians will continue to increase as they have until now, and will eventually inflame the entire region. Think about it.

Systemic Systematic Greed

Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

Why are there annual cost of living increases? Why do people who profit from business or salary need to increase their profits every single year? Why are annual rent increases the norm? When is enough enough?

The reality of our world is that greed has become an accepted and dare I say expected personality trait in today’s world. Well I think this shows how human beings, mostly rich capitalist human beings have fooled themselves into thinking that they actually have values that are worthy of anything other than shame. We live in a nation that accepts rent increases and consumer price increases for no other reason than to satisfy the greedy people who can never seem to feel wealthy enough yet we refuse to extend the same cost of living increase consideration to the many people who earn the minimum wage.

We raise the cost of just about everything every single year and by not raising the minimum wage we are making the poorest people of this nation poorer; intentionally. There is not a single economist who will tell you that this model is fair to all. This model is designed to make the very rich much richer and redistribute wealth from the bottom to the top. It is a trickle up model.

Until the words “homeless” can not be used in the same sentence with words like “person” or “veteran” I don’t want to hear what the economists who have been controlling our economy have to say; especially those economists who have taken over our nation at the private for profit criminal enterprise known as the Federal Reserve.  If you really want to measure your character as a caring compassionate person who is sharing a world with others simply think about what it would take before you feel that you have “enough.”    Think about it!

Electronic Voting Warnings: Think About the Timing

Friday, December 1st, 2006

We are finally starting to hear some official government bodies admit that electronic voting machines can not be trusted and a paper trail should be included in every electoral system. I want you all to think about why they waited until after the midterm elections to make their announcements? They have had years to evaluate the systems and they could have come to these conclusions after the primaries when problems arose all over the nation. They could have simply logged in to Bradblog.com on any given day and drawn the same conclusion. How responsible are the people who chose to make their announcements AFTER the election? At first you may think they are safeguarding democracy by coming forward with this information but when you really think about it you have to ask yourself why they waited!  Think about it!
