Sarah Palin, Lemming Hunter

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Note:  This editorial also can be found at our new site.

Maybe it’s genetic, but Sarah Palin sure is good with a gun.  It seems that daddy loved bringing down those nasty Alaskan brown bears in a town where little Sarah first learned to alarm the local moose community.  But trust me, I’m not knocking moose stew; it might be a really good meal.

Palin grew up in Alaska, where people hunt and fish.  So be it.  This is not going to be a dissertation on animal rights or a moral critique on her spare time activities.  Moose and salmon and wild birds are fair game for hunters in her neck of the woods, and Sarah hunts and fishes with the best of them.  Good for her.

But in her new role as the GOP veep candidate Sarah Palin has crossed a line, even for a hunter.  This time she has set her sights on a new and unfamiliar target. This time she is not aiming at a herd, or a bevy or a flock.  This time she is going after a large group of intelligent, thinking Americans known as women voters.  .

And this time, as she hunts in uncharted territory, Sarah Palin has made a strategic error.  For some distorted reason, Palin thinks she is hunting lemmings.

Please don’t email TvNewsLIES.org to explain that lemmings really do not commit mass suicide.  I know that, I really do.  But these little rodents serve as an effective metaphor for people who blindly follow the opinions of others, often with disastrous consequences.  In a previous editorial, I described the herd mentality of many US legislators as they fell in line and supported the insane and destructive policies of the Bush/Cheney administration, and I still stand by that portrayal.

So, for Sarah Palin, the GOP party hacks, and the idiot corporate media punditry to assume that millions of American women will abandon their convictions, their ideals, their needs and their politics to vote for a candidate just because she has a uterus is totally ridiculous, and highly, highly insulting.

It boggles the mind, it really does. Surely, Sarah Palin will delight those who support her right wing, ultra conservative views on issues such as choice, gay rights, global warming, evolution, gun control and war. Without question, the GOP base has been energized by a candidate whose extreme ideology makes even the late Jerry Falwell sound like a benign moderate.

But to suppose that any other group of Americans will collectively dismiss the problems that confront this nation and cast a collective gender vote is absurd.  I have to believe that Sarah Palin and her GOP partners also believe that thinking women would rally around Ann Coulter, had she been the nominee.  What nonsense.

This election is not about Hillary supporters or glass ceilings.  It is about a nation on the edge of total disaster.  When Sarah Palin suggested that she was the natural successor to the legacies of Clinton and Ferraro, she showed a cynical and calculated disrespect for every voter in the nation, and most particularly for women.  Sarah Palin does not support a single policy for which Clinton and Ferraro fought their entire political lives. In the end, people will vote on the issues, and on the quality of the candidates before them.  To suggest otherwise is demeaning and belittling to us all.

I truly hope that I am right, and that no thinking man or woman will cast a vote in this historical election solely because the slate includes a woman.  Sarah Palin is emerging from Alaska into big time national politics where she has to convince the American public that her values are worthy of their vote.

But first, she has to call off the hunt and deal with the reality that the women of America will not self destruct on her behalf.  As they campaign for the most important positions in the nation, Sarah Palin and John McCain must understand that this is not lemming season in America.

Election Fraud is NOT the Real Problem - The Entire System is Corrupt!

I am tired of hearing pathetic Democrats cry about stolen elections. Fine…it has been proven that George W. Bush and his handlers stole the last two presidential elections. The evidence is voluminous. The fact is that we have been living under the rule of enemies domestic for almost eight years and Congress, along with our military, have allowed these enemies of the state to remain in control of our government. Doesn’t that tell you something? Don’t you see a larger problem here?

Let me tell you whiny Democrats something…the Bush cartel did not steal the elections from the Democrats…they stole the election from the other criminal cartels who decide in advance which men we may choose from to be our president!

The battle over who becomes president does not take place among the citizens of this nation, it takes place among groups such as the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission and the Bilderberg Group. Let me tell you something…the Cheney/PNAC cabal stole the elections from George H.W. Bush, James Baker, George Schultz and associates, not from the Democrats. They are the ones who assembled the Bush administration and rigged the 2000 election to place them in power as a proxy presidential administration. The problem was that the Neocons, once in office, took control and did what they wanted to do, not what their sponsors wanted them to do.

Here is how it used to work. The media, which is controlled by the real power brokers in this nation, have controlled elections in the past by presenting and withholding selected information from the public in order to influence their voting. By doing so, they pretty much guarantee the outcome of an election. Do you think that if the media did their job and actually informed the public accurately about who George W. Bush was and what his qualifications were he would have stood a chance of becoming a US President? This guy was less qualified to be president than Brittney Spears is qualified to be a parent! He was a proxy for the real power brokers - the Bush Sr./James Baker gang. The problem was that those guys underestimated Cheney and his re-assembled crazies!

In 2000, the Internet came to the rescue of the electorate. For the first time, the public saw through the media mind control and voted against the pre-selected winner. Even the US media could not make a case for the pathetically unqualified historical failure known as W., becoming the next US president. The people were not going to follow the propaganda of the media and they were going to cast their votes accordingly. So the power brokers rigged the election in a new way…they messed with the votes.

In 2000, Al Gore was the people’s choice, or so it seemed. You see Gore was the choice of the people only because the media, at the behest of the power brokers, only present us with their menu. We think we get to choose our president, but we only see the menu after it is prepared by the global power broker chefs.

You can never become president. No matter how qualified you are your message will never be heard by your fellow Americans unless you are accepted by the power brokers. The damn media admit this to you every damn election! They tell you right out who is and who is not “electable!” They say this on the air! Pardon my language but what the fuck does that mean? Who the hell are they to tell me, a voter, who is electable? In a democracy we tell the media who is electable, in a dictatorship they tell us! Wake up folks…it’s obvious!

The fact is that in order to be a US president, or a member of Congress who has even the slightest relevance, you must be approved by either the Bilderberg Group, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission (Obama) or these days the Neocons (McCain).

And guess who has the last say about whom you can elect, or I should say “select”? AIPAC! That’s right…if Israel doesn’t pre-approve our politicians…forget it…they are not selectable! And that’s a fact!

Wake up folks…the system is broken and for the life of me I can’t think of a single way to use the system to fix the system. We need a new system. “Selecting” a Democrat is not the answer. Our problems are bigger than that. Until we accept this fact we will continue to tear our nation apart with the red herring known as the “our guy is better than their guy” game. Republicans, Democrats and all other party members…get this through your heads…NONE OF THEM ARE OUR GUYS! Left & Right Unite! Think about it!

The Bombs of August: In Remembrance of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

On August 6 and 9, 1945. After six months of intense firebombing of 67 other Japanese cities, the nuclear weapon “Little Boy” was dropped on the city of Hiroshima on Monday, August 6, 1945, followed on August 9 by the detonation of the “Fat Man” nuclear bomb over Nagasaki. These are to date the only attacks with nuclear weapons in the history of warfare.

In Remembrance of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

When the bombs were dropped I was very happy. The war would be over now, they said, and I was very happy. The boys would be coming home very soon they said, and I was very happy. We showed ‘em, they said, and I was very happy. They told us that the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki had been destroyed, and I was very happy. But in August of 1945 I was only ten years old, and I was very, very happy.

The crew of the B-29 was so young and heroic, and in the photo they also looked very happy.  For some reason, I clearly remember the name of the pilot, Paul Tibbets. Of course I remember the name of the plane, the Enola Gay.  And oh yes, I remember the name of the bomb.  It was called Little Boy. That made me smile.

I was so proud to be an American that day because we had done something so remarkable. They said we were the first. We were Americans. We were powerful.  But they didn’t say that Little Boy had killed 66,000 people with its huge fireball that fateful day in August. They didn’t say that Hiroshima was not a military target, but a city filled with men and women and children and animals who had no idea they were about to die so horribly.  When you’re ten, they don’t always tell you everything.

I don’t think anyone made as big a fuss over the second plane, or its crew. Are they even in the Smithsonian?  Second best doesn’t count, I suppose, but I remember wondering why they had done it again. Wouldn’t the war be over anyway, like they said? Weren’t the boys coming home very soon? Hadn’t they already showed ‘em how strong we were in Hiroshima? So they told me that the second bomb was called Fat Man, and that made me smile.

So I was even prouder to be an American that second day. They said this would be the end for sure, and after all, these people were the enemy and you kill the enemy when you can. But they didn’t tell me that Fat Boy had killed 39,000 human beings with another fireball on another day in August. They didn’t tell me that Nagasaki was not a military target, but a city filled with…well, you know. They didn’t even tell me that there were horses trapped in the flames of Nagasaki, because I loved horses and that would have made me sad. But when you’re ten, they don’t tell you everything.

Today I’m no longer ten, and I am no longer happy when bombs fall. And the names Fat Man and Little Boy no longer make me smile because I now know the devastation and horror of burned bodies and twisted metal that result from the mushroom clouds. And I am ashamed that on this day Americans don’t stop to remember what was done. And I am horrified that my government has just killed thousands of defenseless men and women and children and animals who were not the enemy, and that the silence of America is deafening.

Today, I am so very sad that many young people don’t even know about the Enola Gay and the mission of its crew. And I am so terribly ashamed that the war we have just waged has been so devoid of the reality of death and pain. They haven’t told us about the thousands of civilians they have killed. They haven’t shown us the devastation they have caused. They withhold the true numbers of our own military who die each day. They never mention the hundreds who have been terribly wounded. War is surgical and sanitized, they tell us, and a very effective way to liberate people. They speak to us as if we all were ten.

George W. Bush is not ten. He has announced to the world that he, as the leader of this great nation, has the right to use nuclear weapons once again. This time, he says, he has the right to char men and women and children and animals if he “suspects” their leaders of being a threat to us. He is not ten. He really isn’t.  Then why is he so very happy?  And why, please tell me, is he still smiling? On August 6 and 9, 1945.
