President Bush intervened at the 11th hour and turned down a second proposal by the EPA staff that would have established tougher seasonal limits on ozone based on its harm to forests, crops and other plants, according to documents obtained by The Times. Federal scientists had recommended those growing-season limits as a way to keep vegetation healthy and capable of trapping carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas linked to global warming.

What is it called when you are in such a state of disbelief, new atrocities come down as water dripping on a duck's back? Sometimes the awfulness of it all overwhelms and one has to fight to get back to understanding these things are really happening.

Scandal overload or burnout. The War Chimp and his cabal seem to have calculated that there must be at least one purely outrageous act a week to keep us off keel and overwhelmed. Lost in all this are the Bushbot Congress Critters. These are the guys that won't override the vetoes of things like the anti-torture bill. Since the so-called Democratic leadership won't do their Constitutional duty of impeachment and don't have the votes for veto override, we need to elect non-corporatist Congress Critters to replace the Bushbots, it is the only way to any thing accomplished.

I think the Democratic Party is trying to do that, but last election just the opposite happened. Does anyone know why we are electing neocon Dems as well as Rs?

Memos between the EPA and the White House Office of Management and Budget in the last week show that White House budget officials objected to proposed seasonal standards as being illegal over-regulation. EPA officials countered, but Bush weighed in late Tuesday, and a written order reflecting his decision turning down the proposal was completed.
