maybe Hurricane Ophelia should be renamed to Slowicane Ophelia as she has STILL not come ashore... but... she continues to strengthen... max sustained winds are now at 85 mph...

Old pokey is still strafing the NC coast line and now they are saying the steering currents have weakened... will she make a return pass?

Stay tuned... news at 11...

they sayTropical Storm Ophelia's pulling away from NC, but as she staggers about in the atlantic, she doesn't seem to want to leave the coast line, it's the storm that didn't come to visit but never left... weird huh?

So, with all this attention on Katrina and Ophelia, we have been neglecting the Pacific and now there are two systems out there that are NOT threatening any land areas at this time... Hurricane Kenneth and Hurricane Jova, both are traveling west...

Here.... take a look for yourself...

Hurricanes Kenneth and Jova

The Active Tropical Season continues on unabated... what? You thought it was over because of Katrina? Sorry... no... we have lots more time for God to show George that He/She/It doesn't appreciate being blamed for bush's screw-ups...

Trop Dep 17 has formed east of the antilles and looks to be on the southern track... the time to restock is now... repeating... the time to restock is now... plus there are two more trop waves behind it... also on the southern track... and there are still those two hurricanes Jova and Kenneth in the eastern pacific moving west and you know... since as "they" say:

...What Goes Around Comes Around...

is certainly true... I think you should check out this satellite...

Round and round they go...

we have Tropical Storm Phillippe AND Tropical Depression #18... AND
yet another as yet undesignated system in the eastern atlantic... of
the three, the most worrisome is TD#18 cuz it's A) Starting closer
to the US than the other two and B) it's travelling due west... and
that means...

it's headed straight for the bath waters also known as the Gulf of
Mexico... but I bet by the time it gets there, it will be known as
Rita...

where to after that? Goddess and HAARP only knows...

will that as yet undesignated system east of Phillippe be the Stan that hit the Fan?

TD#18 is now Rita... repeating... TD#18 is now Tropical Storm Rita...

Hello?

The time to start preparing... is NOW!!!

She is headed towards the Gulf... if she gets into that bath water, we may have a big problem on our paws... cuz that water is STILL hotter than normal...

Like I said... start preparing now... avoid the rush...

The experts at the weather channel have Rita's landfalling cone of uncertainty extending from New Orleans to Brownsville, Texas... with everywhere in between under the gun...

HOTTER than normal temps in the south combined with HOTTER than normal water temps in the Gulf combine to make an explosive combo... do NOT let your guard down especially if you live anywhere within the COU...

The 2PM advisory has her maximum sustained winds at 70mph... She'll be a hurricane soon, probably before tomorrow...

round and round she goes, where she stops nobody knows...

Wow! My computer actually brought that image in and it is one scary storm!

You can see the storm get stronger, the eye became smaller and crisp. And it is still over hot water.....

Oh My Freaking God...

I foresee many sleepless nights for this tiger... unable to go to
bed last night til almost 1AM, I saw Rita make Cat3 with sustained
winds of 115mph.... then tossing and turning, wakin up and worrying
about my friend and her kitties that live in Houston, I managed only
a couple of hours sleep before arising this morning to find that
Rita had grown both in size and strength into a Cat 4 storm with Max
sustained winds of 135mph...

Oh geez... the second hundred year storm in less than a month...

Dr. Steve Lyons (I wonder if his friends call him the big cat), says
that the worse case scenario is a cat four that roars ashore and
crosses right over the top of Houston such that the northeastern
quadrant sends a wall of water up the Galveston Channel and into the
newly constructed Houston yuppie housing area and swamps 600,000
homes... yes... 600,000 homes...

I still say that it was a mistake for George gorge on cake Bush to
blame God for what happened in New Orleans...

and then... there's the oil platforms... y'all best tank up today
before the prices skyrocket... and don't forget to fill your tanker
truck...

Rita is currently a Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph... and according to the Discussion on NOAA she is likely to strengthen to a Cat 5 shortly... but there is a small ray of hope in that they say that the water temps in the western gulf are not as conducive to maintaining that strength as they are where she is traversing now...

They speculate that she will weaken some before coming ashore... possibly as low as a three... but... and that's a Karl Rove sized butt... the storm surge, that wall of water being pushed in front of the storm will NOT diminish... once a Cat 5 surge, always a Cat 5 surge...
