Ok... We have TD#19 in the eastern Atlantic and we have TD#20 in the western Caribbean... we have a nicely rotating low near Puerto rico that is currently unnumbered... we have Hurricane Otis stalking Cabo San Lucas with max sustained winds of 100 mph... we have TD Kenneth on the Big Island... and then... and then... and then...

we have Typhoon Longwang with winds of 140 mph bearing down upon the island of Taiwan...

We have Stan... and he's in the Yucatan... surely to strengthen once he reemerges into the Gulf...

then where? the experts purrdict a second Mexico landfall... they say that the USA is not threatened by Stan...

yeah yeah, they say a picture is worth 10,000 words... and it's certainly true here, especially since it's a close up and in motion...

Briefly Stan became our 11th Hurricane before he made landfall in Mexico... now he appears as if he wants to traverse Mexico and immerge on the Pacific side for a rendezvous with....

who?

And in the mean time, we watch that disturbance in the breeding grounds of giants... the eastern Bahamas... an area that has recently spawned two monsters, Katrina and Rita... will this disturbance be Tammy? or maybe even Vince?

Only time will tell...

well, that didn't take long... we have TS Tammy and she's headed north, dumping copious amounts of rain on Florida, taking aim on George-ia... likely to make landfall today or tomorrow at the latest...

But... the one that NOW has my eye, is this disturbance between Cuba and the Yucatan... looks like blowback from Stan... could this be Vince? and what happens if Vince makes it into the Gulf?

Got those kits restocked yet?

the water temps in the gulf... for those areas that still have instruments that is are ranging between 7 and 10 degrees warmer than average for this time of year...

But fear not, for the bush administration says there is no such thing as glowball warming...

Feelin' safe?

Ok... we have TD Tammy and she is currently traversing Alabama headed
WEST at 12 mph... she's pulling tropical moisture from both the
Atlantic AND the Gulf and she's dumping it all along the southern
coast......

got Ark?

shifting gears...

Hey... how about that Blizzard in North Dakota/Montana yesterday? The
EARLIEST BLIZZARD EVER!!! hmmmm... that's the same thing that
happened with the Hurricane Season... Dennis was the earliest cat 4
storm ever... and this season has been prolific...

so this earliest ever blizzard does not bode well for our winter...

got natural gas?

but my fellow serfs... Our Illustrious Leader and his august staff
say there is no such thing as glowball warming...

so are you feeling safe yet?

hmmmm... we have SUB-tropical depression 22... no I don't think that has anything whatsoever to do with Bill Bennette's alledged extra-curricular activities in Las Vegas with Mistress Lee.... involving black leather on her and paddles on him...

noooooo... tis another form of storm that could easily develop into Vince...

And it's headed towards Bermuda...

Got Brawley?

To quote Madeline Kahn in Blazing Saddles... They are coming and going, going and coming....
TD 22 has left the building... but from out of the blue... the deep blue... we have Tropical Storm Vince...

Way out in the Atlantic, near the coast of Africa and travelling north easterly lies a system with a well defined eye, 50 mph winds but they aren't sure if it's tropical or subtropical...

seems strange to this tiger that it's headed towards Europe... but... we shouldn't look a gift storm in the eye cuz Portugal could sure use some precip... They have been having BAD fires, so a tropical system would be very helpful.... provied it didn't flood or cause mudslides...

Any idea when the last time that there was a "V" storm in the Atlantic Basin?

Thank you for your constant updates, Stripey. When I want a really good look at what the weather is doing, I come here!

Has there ever been a 'V' storm in the Atlantic basin?

No... It was a trick question.

In 1933, there were 21 tropical systems but they did NOT name them then so this is the FIRST "V" named tropical storm in the Atlantic Basin... As will Wilma be the First "W"... then it's the Greek Alphabet for names if there are any more... and I'm betting there will be...

Thanks dori... it's a calling... some of my friends and relatives call it my obsession... my wife for instance... :D the nice thing about the weather is that it doesn't lie and the spin is real...

beats politics...

I have always been interested in weather. My Dad kept a daily calendar so I guess I came by it naturally. But I have never seen anyone who does the great job you do keeping track and keeping others up to date.

Just wanted you to know I appreciate it.

Thanks dori... the tiger bows...

Ok... PoP Quiz...

Before Vince did, have any other tropical systems ever made landfall in Spain?

Yes or No...

Extra credit: When?
