Irene's now just a depression... a shadow of her former self... soon to expire, no doubt

then again... just when you think it's safe... chit happens...

she's still "just" a depression but... she's reorganizing and although that can be a good thing in a household, among tropical systems it can be devastating...

One thing they were saying, had she stayed a tropical storm she'd have been whisked into the North Atlantic... but... as a mere depression, she is steaming towards the west and I'm sure y'all know what is to the west...

Granted... she's not a big bad assed storm but hey... copious amounts of rain on already saturated soil is really bad news... especially for those whose land it is, or for those downslope...

Ok... who remembers that old story... The Little Engine That Could... ?

Well, it seems that Irene could very well BE that little engine... not only is she continuing to steam towards the west, but she has reorganized herself into tropical Storm status and is strengthening...

"They" purrdict she will become a hurricane by Saturday... but where exactly she's going is anybody's guess...

so I'm going to guess... North Carolina and then sweep up into Virginia bypassing Catherine...

anyone else have a guess?

She'll probably be dropping copious amounts of rain where ever she makes landfall...

Also in the Pacific... we have Hurricane Fernanda and Tropical Storm Greg too... both will do little more than create waves for so-cal surfers...

Cow-A-Bunga!!!

Irene could pass over here in MD. Those storms have a way of hitting the Carolinas and then coming north.

I have some bottled water and some canned food, but hopefully it will just blow a little wind and rain around.

Got bird food, Birdz? How about cat food? Litter? Batteries for the transistor radio? Fill the car with gas in case the power goes out and ya might want some cash for the same reason...

The Weather Channel continues to say that they believe she will turn to the north and just brush by the east coast but... she's steaming to the North West and on that track, the Carolinas are where she's headed... if she don't turn soon, she will come ashore...

Got ark?

And the wild ride continues...
Not only do we have Tropical Depression Ten but they expect it to become Tropical Storm Jose tomorrow...

Well, Irene's off to other parts, and TD 10 seems to have fizzled.

However, we still have a few months left in the hurricane season.

Not to worry, Stripey. I did the hurricane preparedness drill just before Isabel. I know what to do. If the eye is headed my way and it's a Cat 2 or more, I'm getting in the car and driving towards Ohio!

Hurricane Irene appears to be heading out of Dodge but... if you check out this loop, there is the chance that she could double back in the same manner as Jeanne did last year and if she does...

Hurricane Irene Water Vapor Loop

watch out...

In the Eastern Pacific, we now have Hurricane Hilary... shouldn't affect land as she is moving west... kind of like Johnny Appleseed...

There's a Cat Four Typhoon in the Western Pacific that may impact Japan later this week... and there's another tropical system trailing right behind it...

Pacific Ocean - InfraRed

We have TD 11 in the Bay of Campeche headed in a westerly direction so it is unlikely that it will become Jose before making landfall...

Hurricane Hilary is now a cat 2 storm with sustained winds of 105 mph...

OK... TD 11 became Tropical Storm Jose last night and stayed at that strength for a scant 15 hours until he made landfall... He is now Tropical Depression Jose and is making a beeline for Mexico City...

Hurricane Hilary is still churning ineffectually in the Pacific...

the super typhoon in the western pacific is still headed towards Japan, ETA in 36 hours somewhere south of Tokyo... It's companion storm is headed north and out of the picture tho... we should hope that it continues on up to Alaska and helps to extinguish some of their wildfires...

But now... back to Trop Dep 10... you remember that one don't you? IT came off Africa, became a depression and promptly fizzled... well, it has continued on it's disorganized journey across the Atlantic and is now just north of Hispanola.... It's still disorganized but... they are saying even in this state of confusion, it could bring copious amounts of rainfall to Southern Florida in the next couple of days...

and then there's the latest wave to come off Africa... we'll be watching this one closely... it could become Katrina...

Instead of reinstituting trop dep 10, they are going to issue a new tropical disturbance on 10's remnants located in the southern Bahamas...

Soon to be Trop Dep 12

Floridians? Pay close attention to this... especially if you live in southern Florida...
