When industry first moved in here in the middle ’90s and started really filling this field in, we were assured over and over that these processes were safe, that we had nothing to worry about. And, you know, a lot of people around here, quite frankly, have a pro-industry view and wanted the gas to be extracted.
My question for Mr. Fenton would be how did the energy industry get the right to put those wells on his property in the first place? Did he sign a land-use lease with them and is he compensated for the use of his land? Does he get a royalty when natural gas is found and extracted from his property? Seems to me, and I could be wrong, but if he and others like him had not agreed to the use of their land in this way, there would not be a problem now. The same goes for other places where fracking is being utilized. If the land is privately owned, the owners have to sign agreements, correct?....and then they really can't bitch too much, can they, if all they see are dollars and immediate gratification before they read the fine print, if it's there at all.
