Gee Dori, aren't you the bearer of great news today, first the Paddilla thing and now this. I feel so safe and cozy here in the good Ole U S of A now.

Man, do I wish I could write about birds and flowers. I hope we can get back to that. How innocent we all were seven years ago.

This psychological business is a new low. A neighbor told me about a school friend who is 'so nice and clean cut'. His job now is guarding W, and he loves his job. W is such a great guy!

This 'nice, clean cut' guy is studying to be a psychologist. I told her what 'psychologists' are doing in Bush's America. She just turned and left, probably thinking I was making it up.

There is a big pow-wow going on this weekend--many psychologists don't want the reputation they are getting from this experimenting by the neocons. Democracy Now has been carrying the story and will continue to carry it. I hope the good guys win!

Do not read the first one if you want to preserve an America that cares in your mind. An America that cares is not Bush's America!

Renowned Psychologist, Author Returns APA Award over Interrogation Policy

At its annual convention just over a week ago, the APA’s policymaking council voted overwhelmingly to reject a measure that would have banned its members from participating in interrogations at Guantanamo Bay and other US detention centers. In the days since the convention ended, the Houston Chronicle, one of the nation’s most widely read newspapers, criticized the move in an editorial, writing, "Psychologists have no place assisting interrogations at places such as Guantanamo Bay."

Then in an even more dramatic development, renowned psychologist and New York Times bestselling author Mary Pipher decided to return her Presidential Citation award from the APA in protest. In a letter to the group’s president, she wrote, “I have struggled for many months with this decision and I make it with pain and sorrow...I do not want an award from an organization that sanctions its members' participation in the enhanced interrogations at CIA 'black sites' and at Guantanamo.”

It is sad when a person has to leave a group to save his/her good name. But it is good to know good people are fighting back!
