AP: Air Force Academy Chief Under Review - http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/national/AP-Academy-Religion.html?ex=1118894400&en=17f2e1b83a7812c1&ei=5070&emc=eta1 - The Air Force is reviewing the conduct of the No. 2 officer at the Air Force Academy, a born-again Christian who's been criticized for promoting his religion inappropriately in memos and speeches, The Associated Press has learned.

Question: A Christian who trains people to bomb other people. What kind of religion teaches one to select this path in life? Did Jesus have a militia? Did Jesus create the F18 so that you can use it to slam a 500lb. bomb into a populated city? Did Jesus create depleated uranium so that his followers can cover a nation full of men women and children with it?

You religious people seem to be responsible for the overwhelming horrors and hate on this planet. Most of it done in the name of God.

Nice little cult you have there. Did Jesus teach your people all these wonderful ways to make the world a miserable hateful death filled place? If not, perhaps you should talk to your compadres and straighten yourselves out. Us peacful non-believers will wait to see if you can. Let us know if you need help; we have a lot of experience in getting along with others and making the world a better place. Something some of your people need to learn.

Not all Christians fail to follow the teachings of Christ.

Don't attack all of us for the mistakes of some, even if they're the more vocal.

That is why I wrote that "some" of your people need to learn.

Amen to that.

I'm doing what I can to counter the influence of the reactionary fundamentalists, but I'm only one man.

Thank you for your efforts! The true measure of character is effort, not success. Remember that!

AMEN, brother Jesse... AMEN...

I wonder why our local neighborhood christian, lucas, has failed to weigh in on this heady discussion... Could it be because he doesn't have a clue about the actual teachings of Christ? Nahhhhhhhhhhhh... must just be an oversight...

I have a question for all those Christians like the one described in your thread starter, Jesse...

Can you show me the passage in the Bible where Jesus says it is ok to kill your brother and steal his goods because you think you deserve them more than he does?

you won't find it, stripey.

man today has prostituted the bible. not only so-called ministers, preachers, etc, but slick polititicans as well.

to prove my point, one only has to look at the pro-christian posters who can only quote bible verses that they feel support their causes or shallow beliefs.

intellectual church scholars have been studying the bible for many many years, and even they have a hard time deciphering the meanings of it. yet, right here in america, we have an abundance of bible "experts", and an over abundance of idiots that blindly believe anything they are told.

Good thread, Jesse. Thanks for starting it.

IMHO, the bible, as it is interpreted by the Christians of Georgy Bush and his cronies, is more "Murder, HE Wrote" than anything else.

I am constantly amazed at the trend in American society to take the Christian religion and use it to promote and condone violence. Of course, when one actually reads the bible, one quickly realizes it's full of violence, supression of women and children, blood, guts, and murder galore.

I picked up my granddaughter after her softball practice a few weeks ago. Someone had tacked up a sign on the concession stand wall advertising "Come to the Guns for God Gunshow this weekend." Posted along the interstate yesterday I saw signs advertising "Combat4Christ.com" There's a martial arts studio in town which advertises a program called Martial Arts for Christians.

George Bush and his theocratic stance on so many violent issues makes it easy for those who like violence and warmongering to "come out of the closet."

It's a phase America is in, a Dark Ages if you will, but when will it end? More importantly, HOW will it end? And will there be anything left of the world when it does?

Thanks. I had second thoughts when I posted it. Religion is a hot topic. Many people take offense to comments about their religion.

My religion is more of a philosophy. Do the right thing. Pretty simple:-)

EXACTLY!

The phrase "Golden Rule" does not appear in the bible. Neither does the famous "do unto others" ruling. It's pretty simple to me. If morality means anything, it means that I am accountable to other human beings. That's a big difference between how I believe and how Christians believe. Christians believe they are accountable only to God, not to anyone in the real world. Thus, they can ask for forgiveness from their god for any crimes they commit against humanity. In other words, they can act with impunity. And they often do.

Look at George Bush and the Neocons, standing on the bible while they declare war on an innocent people. Look at their supporters, cheering them on.
