Meet Karen Ignagni.

She's the CEO of America's Health Insurance Plans, the main insurance industry lobbyist group and enemy of health care reform. Do you think she should be nominated for a "Worst Person in the World" award?

The insurance industry will be the main obstacle to winning quality, affordable health care for all. If we can get the word out about their bad practices, their big-money politics, and their army of lobbyists, we can make sure health care reform works for the people in America, not for big business.

I'll second that. Anyone against health care has to be characterized as the "worst" person in the world... Tar and feather all lobbyist at AHIP. They cheat and lie like the republicans

It would be a fairly safe bet that they ARE Republicans, just reinforcing their ability to cheat, lie and steal.

Wonder what the cry would be should one or more get a deadly disease. They would be the first one's at the doctor's demanding all the health care that is offered.
Those that fight the system, usually are the one's that want it the most when needed.

There's a very interesting op-ed piece written in one of the local newspapers about one man's health insurance experience.

He writes that about a year ago, he had some routine blood work done at a local hospital and was then handed a bill for $35, which he paid for with a check right there on the spot. Recently, the man had the same blood work done at the same local hospital. This time around, he says that he was asked for and provided his insurance information. He assumed that his medical insurance would be billed the same $35. You can imagine his surprise when a few weeks later, he received a statement from the local hospital that his insurance company had been billed $382 for the same blood work!

I agree with the man writing about his experience when he says that this is a prime example of one thing that is wrong with our health care system. All the goddesses know that I'm not a supporter of the huge health insurance conglomerates who are trying to screw us over one more time. But neither am I in favor of the insurance companies being charged ten times over for the same service. There is no such thing as a free lunch...for any of us. Somebody has to pay.

One small way we can fight back is to be ever vigilent about scrutinizing those notices we receive from our health care providers about charges to our insurance companies. Note what was charged and how much of it the insurance company was expected to pay. We should lodge protests to the medical provider if the charges seem to be too high.

It might help...just a little and a whole lot of "littles" have been shown to make huge differences now and then.
