I would like to be a sexy mannequin dealer, I consider a mannequin to be 3D art and I have not tired of the human form. Having said that, I have the opportunity to import ten mannequins at a great price...I think.

But I don't understand the shipping. Does somebody know what this means?

First email from manufacturer:

"Price is US$77.5/pc FOB China. Finish is normal natural color with make-up and metal base in chrome plated, excluding wig."

Second email from manufacturer:

"Need 16 days to produce 10 pcs because we have no stock. You want to ship by sea or by airfreight? Please advise your nominated forwarder so as to we can arrange air or sea shipment upon parts be ready. The packing for mannequin is 1 set / ctn / 8.41cuft(123*44*44cm) / 16 kgs.

I looked up FOB and it seems to mean that it includes freight to destination (been a long time since college).

Seems that sea would take several weeks for sure. Why would anyone select sea if freight were included....so I don't think freight to the US is included.

Plus I have no "nominated forwarder." I assume that is a freight go-between who picks up the merchandise and forwards it to me.

Can anybody give any advice? Thanks in advance.

My advice would be to call up someone like Fedral Express or UPS and talk with them, or actually first email the company back and ask. I have found some information for you though "Nominated Forwarder" is a bit confusing to me.....something new.

Anyways, here are a couple of links. Hope they help.

FOB.

This is a global shipping terms which use in international trade. CIF means Cost Insurance and Freight. That means shipper/Trader has to pay the Cost of shipment up to the ship, Insurance cost of cargo and Freight cost up to destination port. FOB stands for Free On Board which means shipper

Now for Nominated forwarder, if I understand it correctly, I think that YOU have to arrange who is going to ship the merchandise overseas. I'm not sure on this....but this is what it appears to be. I would strongly advise talking on the phone with someone and make sure you understand everything.

Here is one thing I found.

Quote:
1 Hire a freight forwarder or have your seller send merchandise through their freight forwarder. Three documents you will need for this process to start is Bill of lading, Packing List and Commercial Invoice. Have your seller ship goods door to door, meaning your address. The freight forwarder will make all arrangements for a seamless shipping solution ocean, rail and truck to your choice of location.
2. Hire a Freight forwarder in your area to clear customs for you.
3. Depending on merchandise ask the customs clerance specialist you have hired to make sure you comply with all governmental regulatory paperwork and that your supplier has forwarded you any required certificates. We import engines and secure EPA Complience Certificates from the engine manufacturer.
4. Ask for TELEX RELEASE on your Bill of Lading,
5.They will ship you the container and you must unload or you can arrange a public bonded warehouse in your city/area to recieve and unload for a resonable fee.

Utilize government websites: US Customs Service to determine your regulatory responsibilities. Pay attention to CFR's that affect your particular mechandise. It seems like alot, but with a little research and organization it can be accomplished.
