at what point does something become symbolic for you? for example, when you are holding a little american flag that was made in china on a production line, do you consider that flag as being something "sacred"? if so, why? that flag was made in a factory, probably at wages we'd cringe at, was massed produced and the "rejects" most likely thrown in the garbage. however, this same object, once in the hands of an american miraculously turns into something special.

so, at what point does this little flag become "sacred"?

same thing with religious articles. a crucifix for example is made the same way: on a production line. any rejects are most likely smashed and trashed. the good ones are just boxed and shipped until they get into the hands of some christian who proudly hangs it on their wall and begins to pray to this object.

so, when does the crucifix become "sacred"?

Are you against the United States having a symbol? As far as I know all countries have flags. The flag just represents us as a group. Just because one shows it respect does not mean one worships it. The respect that is being shown, at least for me, is to this country and what it was founded on, and for all the lives given to make it and keep it free.

As far as the crucifix, again I've never had one on my wall, but the people that do probably are not praying to it, they are praying before it. There is a difference.

i beg to differ with your answer. would you throw a flag into the garbage? or, have you?

have you tossed a crucifix out?
