Jack Random: 'Impeach Bush — US out now!'
Sunday, June 19 @ 09:49:17 EDT

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Jack Random, Dissident Voice

“Our focus is not on the past. It’s on the future.”
-- Scott McClellan, White House Spokesman.

How convenient to focus on the future when the past is a compelling indictment of criminal and immoral behavior. If it were an adequate explanation, then Richard Nixon would have completed his second term, Lyndon Johnson would have sought reelection, and the Nuremberg trials would not have been convened.

Beyond the incredulity of the president’s response to a growing body of evidence that his administration cooked the books to justify an illegal and unjustified war, the crime is not limited to the past. It is ongoing and has no end in sight.

When you are caught in the process of committing a crime, whether it is a common burglary or a war of naked aggression, you do not ask leave to consummate the act. Should this be any less apparent when there are hundreds of thousands of lives in the balance?

This nation went to war on allegations our leaders knew with absolute clarity were false and malicious. Stubbornly clinging to the lie while slandering those who bring the truth to public light only compounds the crime with arrogance and obstruction -- the very crimes that ultimately ended the reign of Nixon.

Under the leadership of this president, America is directly responsible for the massive destruction of an innocent nation’s infrastructure, a monumental waste of desperately needed resources, and the loss of more lives than we are willing or able to count.

The defenders of war and the White House may be right in one respect. The Downing Street Memo is nothing new. It is like waiting for an autopsy to confirm a death. After a steady stream of revelations and testimonials from impeccable sources such as Ambassador Joseph Wilson, counter-terrorism analyst Richard Clarke, and former Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill, as well as the targeted leaks of the CIA, British Intelligence and the State Department, anyone who did not know that the war was ordained at Bush V. Gore, was not following the news. Anyone who did not know that intelligence was shaped to policy is deliberately uninformed.

Unfortunately, the White House press corps (also know as the American mainstream media) has become very adept at obscuring the truth with subterfuge. Like a mantra, the lies of war are repeated until they become accepted truths. Our leaders were betrayed by a massive intelligence failure. Like an illusionist, the war propagandists offer up an endless parade of dazzle, titillation and outrage. The bug-eyed runaway bride gains more attention than the affairs of state (The people want to know!) and Congress follows suit by calling a special session to decide the fate of Terri Schiavo.

It has become necessary to repeat the truth over and over again until the most reticent of news outlets can no longer ignore it. As it was in the days of Watergate, so it is today. Both the media and the political powers are entrenched. Their primary motive is not to reveal or embrace the truth but to secure their power base by any and all means.

At the time of Watergate, however, it was the blessing of this nation that the Washington Post was an island of integrity in a sea of indifference. The blessing now is that the internet has given birth to an alternate universe of knowledge, information and analysis. Neither the Times nor the Post has the power to ignore Memogate to a quiet death. The bloggers gave it wings and they will keep it flying. Members of Congress are jumping on board not out of courage or a sudden resurgence of conscience but of desperation. The truth is coming out. Like the bulging waters of a broken dam, those gutless politicians who are not braced for impact will be swept away like yesterday’s news. Those who voted for the war, the Patriot Act and the continued occupation, who christened Freedom Fries and chastised the antiwar movement for treachery and fanaticism, are scrambling now for higher grounds. The warning has sounded; the tsunami is upon them.

Those of us who recognized the truth and opposed the war from its inception owe it to the collective conscience of the nation to continually point out that it was never difficult to decipher. George Bush may be charming at a certain level to a certain segment of society but he was never good at hiding the truth. He wanted war so bad he flaunted it like a chest-thumping gorilla. He ordered Shock and Awe while the disarmament of Iraq was literally in progress just so he could mark the anniversary of Daddy’s War with his own. It could not have been more obvious.

Those who wish to jump on the antiwar, anti-occupation bandwagon now, you are long overdue and welcome but do not ask for special recognition. Let it be recorded in history that America’s political leaders (with the exception of the Congressional Black Caucus and very few others) were slow to act and that they deferred until shifting public opinion made it tenuous not to declare opposition.

As for those who continue to support the president, his wars, his occupations and his doctrine of perpetual war, may whatever deity you confide in (for I am told you are people of faith) forgive you. As you stood with the president, so may you fall. It is very late in the day and there is a price to be paid in blood, treasure and political capital for every moment we continue to prolong the inevitable.

We have lost another war we should never have begun. We have darkened the dignity of the nation. We have dimmed the light of freedom and democracy. We have lowered the flag in mourning and in shame and we have held it to public ridicule.

We cannot regain what we have lost by continuing to prosecute the occupation and expanding the war to other nations under the familiar Vietnam fantasy that just a little more will turn the tide. There is no winning an endless war and the enemy we have chosen to fight (ultimately, the entire universe of Islam) will never yield. We can only hope to limit the damage, make amends and reparations.

Let us begin now, before another life is lost or another dollar cast to the wind, by announcing the withdrawal of all American troops and simultaneously removing the fundamentally flawed Commander-in-Chief that led us tragically astray.

i noticed our local newspaper, a very conservative one at that, had two full pages today about the DSM and all related documents. I didn't have a chance to read it yet, which i will do soon, but this is amazing that they would finally start printing this. They even printed the DSM in the paper....

i feel safe to say the ball is starting to roll.....

Dave Zweifel: We've seen enough to impeach Bush

By Dave Zweifel Image

June 20, 2005

As I said in this space two weeks ago, if Bill Clinton was impeached for lying about having sex with an intern, then George Bush needs to be impeached for the deliberate lies he and his cabal told to start a war that has now taken the lives of more than 1,700 young American men and women and countless Iraqi citizens, plus threatens to bankrupt the country.

One of our "Sound Off" callers insisted last week that only "Bush haters" would say such things.

Another took to task the Wisconsin Democratic Party, which passed a resolution calling for the president's impeachment at its convention a week ago, for being "foolish and shortsighted."

"They bathe themselves in the lies, falsehoods and accusations against the Bush administration, unable to accept their losses, which will continue as far as we can see into the future," the caller insisted.

If I were that caller, I wouldn't bet a lot on those assumptions, for it's becoming clear that Americans are beginning to realize what an utter disaster this administration has been for their country. The president's approval ratings are at historic lows - well below 50 percent - and even the war he bamboozled Congress and the people to approve is being questioned by not a minority any more, but the majority of the American people.

What the opinion polls show is that many more than just "Bush haters" have seen enough.

The recent disclosures of secret memos of meetings involving British Prime Minister Tony Blair's staff have underlined just how cynical and deceitful the people entrusted to lead the United States were in fabricating intelligence to get this war under way. It has become clear that they never had any intention of letting the United Nations try to settle the dispute. It seems clear now that they had made up their minds nearly a year before that Saddam Hussein was to be forcibly deposed.

Yet Bush and his lieutenants kept telling the American people that war would be waged only as a last resort.

As Rep. John Conyers, a Michigan Democrat, said last week, "The veracity of those statements has - to put it mildly - come into question."

Because the administration refuses to answer questions about the so-called Downing Street memo and others that have surfaced since and because Bush's party controls all of Congress, Conyers had to resort to a "public forum" to gather testimony on the issue.

In a matter of a few days, more than a half million Americans signed petitions backing Conyers in urging the president to explain the memos. So far, Bush has dismissed it all as "falsehoods" and refused to comment further.

But the people want answers. Even those who don't hate Bush don't like being lied to.

Lying presidents need to be impeached. That's what the Republicans in Congress told us only a few years ago.

So let's get on with it.

Downing Street Memo Originals Destroyed
The so-called Downing Street Memo - which was presumed to be authentic when Bush administration critics began touting it last month as evidence the president committed impeachable crimes - is actually a manually recreated copy - with the source of the memo now admitting he retyped the document before destroying the originals.

British reporter Michael Smith, who broke the memo story in the London Times on May 1, revealed to The Associated Press over the weekend that "he protected the identity of the source he had obtained the documents from by typing copies of them on plain paper and destroying the originals."

Smith's admission means there's now no independent way to determine the accuracy of the Downing Street Memo, i.e., whether he made any typos or transcription errors that could have changed the memo's meaning.
The revelation has conjured up memories of the CBS News forged document scandal last year, where anchorman Dan Rather argued that damaging records he obtained from President Bush's National Guard file were essentially accurate, even though they had been faked by his source.

While British officials hadn't disputed the authenticity of the Downing Street Memo, a senior member of the Blair government who reviewed the memo in light of reporter Smith's admission could say only that its contents "appeared authentic."

That official, however, requested anonymity, refusing to make an on-the-record endorsement of the memo's accuracy.

One small mistake there Bucky - the originals were not destroyed. They were returned for legal reasons. Get your facts right before posting. See what Michael Smith himself has to say about the documents ;

http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-smith23jun23,0,1838831.story

The so called "memos" are not the only pieces of evidence available. Check your memory on how Intelligence was fixed to justify the war. They wanted a war with Iraq - no matter what the cost. The reasons for this are quite obvious to anyone with half a brain.

1) the war is illegal
2) it was planned way in advance
3) with no exit strategy

We're working on getting the pResident impeached. If the "memos" don't do the trick, something else will. Accept it as it is Bucky. Your Fuehrer fucked up royally. It's only a matter of time. :bigsmurf:

Two things we have on our side : time and the truth. Oh, almost forgot love. Does anybody remember Love ?

Okay, one addition post scriptum (or so) ;

http://slate.msn.com/id/2099277/ In Bob Woodward's "Plan of Attack" you can see more proof that the war was planned far in advance.
i.e Page 25: Hours after the Sept. 11 attacks, Donald Rumsfeld asks Pentagon colleagues about the possibility of striking Saddam Hussein. An aide records in his notes: "hit S.H. @ same time—not only UBL [Usama Bin Laden]."

Fixing the facts ?
Page 190: In September 2002, Bush tells the press that Iraq can launch a biological or chemical attack within 45 minutes—an assertion that the CIA finds completely phony. Director George Tenet refers to it as the "they-can-attack-in-45-minutes shit."

Ignoring the facts ?
Page 25: Much of Woodward's book involves the administration's efforts to marginalize, or completely ignore, Colin Powell. After Rumsfeld and others raise the idea of striking Iraq in response to 9/11, Powell tells Gen. Hugh Shelton, "What the hell! What are these guys thinking about? Can't you get these guys back in the box?"

In preperation ?
Page 14: On Feb. 16, 2001, American and British planes bomb Iraqi targets to enforce the no-fly zones. No one from the Joint Chiefs of Staff bothers to inform the secretary of defense.

Some harsh words from an insider prior to the decision to roll ?
Page 115: Franks to lethargic commanders before the Iraq war: "This is fucking serious. You know, if you guys think this is not going to happen, you're wrong. You need to get off your ass."

Again, looking for a reason :
Page 247-49: At a December 2002 briefing, Tenet's deputy makes the case that Iraq is harboring weapons of mass destruction. Bush says, "I've been told all this intelligence about having WMD and this is the best we've got?" Tenet raises his arms and says, "Don't worry, it's a slam-dunk!" To date, no WMD have been found in Iraq.

etc.

Downing Street Memo Originals Destroyed -UGH!
NewsMax ^ | 6/20/05 | Limbacher

The so called Downing Street Memo - which was presumed to be authentic when Bush administration critics began touting it last month as evidence the president committed impeachable crimes - is actually a manually recreated copy - with the source of the memo now admitting he retyped the document before destroying the originals.

British reporter Michael Smith, who broke the memo story in the London Times on May 1, revealed to the Associated Press over the weekend that he "he protected the identity of the source he had obtained the documents from by typing copies of them on plain paper and destroying the originals."

While British officials hadn't disputed the authenticity of the Downing Street Memo, a senior member of the Blair government who reviewed the Downing Street Memo in light of reporter Smith's admission could say only that its contents "appeared authentic."

That official, however, requested anonymity, refusing to make an on-the-record endorsement of the memo's accuracy.

New questions about the authenticity Downing Street Memo come at a particularly awkward time for Democrats in America. Only last week, House Democrats staged a mock impeachment hearing based on the re-created document.

Former presidential candidate John Kerry announced on June 2 that he intended to confront Congress with the Downing Street Memo, believing at the time that the document's authenticity was beyond reproach.

"I think it's a stunning, unbelievably simple and understandable statement of the truth and a profoundly important document that raises stunning issues here at home," he told a reporter.

Last week, a Kerry aide said his boss was sending a letter to President Bush demanding that he answer questions about the fake memo.

Downing Street MemoGate?
Looks like the CBS standard applies to the Downing Street Memos:

The eight memos — all labeled “secret” or “confidential” — were first obtained by British reporter Michael Smith, who has written about them in The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Times.
Smith told AP he protected the identity of the source he had obtained the documents from by typing copies of them on plain paper and destroying the originals.

It seems quite strange that the original memos, which are claimed by left to prove that the Bush administration lied about WMD intelligence to justify liberating Iraq (which, by the way, anyone who actually reads them would know they don't even do that) would be destroyed to protect the sources. Sounds oddly familiar doesn't it? Do the words 'fake but accurate' mean anything to you?

What makes this situation even sadder is the fact that Democrats held a mock impeachment hearing over the Iraq war, which "concluded" these unverifiable documents were a smoking gun that Bush lied to the nation. I suppose none of them actually read the memos either.

It's time for the Democratic Party to get back in touch with reality.

Even these guys ot it wrong. Again, the originals were returned for legal reasons. The photo copies of the originals - which still exist - were destroyed. The facts are out. His time is up. Memos or not. The truth is slowly coming to the surface. A matter of time. Only a matter of time.

Think about it Bucky. A lot of people in the UK and in the US and possibly elsewhere are now out to get your fuehrer by the balls. Warn him today - if you are truely loyal to the criminal.

i'll agree with that part . leftist media is bullshit.
but you have to read the whole column before being so opinionated .
get to the meat of the whole story, this is just another lame attempt from left wing liberals to discredit anything President Bush is accomplishing.
why do you insist on providing the enemy with propaganda bullshit ammo.
this only makes the job our troops are doing harder.
you are providing the enemy with ammo against the real men and women on the front line.
