JOHN KERRY TOOK THE SAFEST ROUTE POSSIBLE. That may be hard to comprehend now but back then you could enlist, which allowed you to CHOOSE the branch (army, navy, air force, marines) where you wanted to serve; or risk being drafted and let the govt choose. John Kerry volunteered b/c his chances of being drafted were relatively high, which increased the risk of him ending up in the jungles of Vietnam. He made the best decision FOR HIM at that time. In addition, at the time JK volunteered Swift Boats patrolled the oceans off Vietnam…it was only later that their assignment was modified to patrolling the inner waterways of VN.

I find it interesting that the simple fact that Kerry went to VN makes his military more impressive than Bush's. However, even though it makes you sound like a ridiculous, hypocritical, buffoon, you say things like rather than even consider that Kerry’s Vietnam service may not have been as heroic as he said. Lord knows it was more heroic than Bush’s (that’s not even debatable)…but Bush’s lack of heroics doesn’t make Kerry any more heroic. But it does make you less credible…you won’t even consider Kerry may have fudged ONE word, on one document, related to one of his purple hearts.
