** Editor & Publisher reported this week that the National Press Club invited male gigolo "Bulldog" aka disgraced White House "correspondent" Jeff Gannon/James Guckert to appear on a panel probing blogging and journalism. "Should a non-journalist who has worked as a male escort be invited to speak on a journalism panel at the National Press Club?" asked E&P editor Greg Mitchell. He then requested the Club produce "any examples of (known) hookers who have previously appeared as speakers at the Press Club, especially as part of journalism panels."
** Simon & Schuster recently recruited James Carville's evil other Mary Matalin to run its new conservative book imprint. The first title will be a memoir by Mary Cheney--quite ironic considering the hits John Kerry and John Edwards took in the presidential debate for "outing" the VP's lesbian daughter. "All the Cheneys are great writers, and she's no exception," Matalin told the AP. Literature, especially the steamy lesbian variety conjured by Lynne, is apparently the glue that holds the Cheney clan together.
** It was a tough week for MSNBC's Joe Scarborough. After listening to guest Randall Terry call American judges Nazis/Stalinists/Communists, irate neocon convert Christopher Hitchens told Joe, "You should be ashamed of the show you've been running." Two days later, Dr. Ronald Cranfield--a neurologist who examined Terri Schiavo in 2001--berated dim-witted correspondent Lisa Daniels before ripping into Joe. The highlights: "You are not accurate on a lot of things here...That's just a lie. And Joe doesn't have any idea what he is talking about...This is all bogus. It's all just a bunch of crap that you are saying. It's totally wrong...How could you possibly be so stupid?...Joe, you've got to get your facts straight...Get your facts straight. You've got your facts way off." Quick, get the doctor on Fox.
** Speaking of the devil, Fox News' schlock Christian populist Sean Hannity also had a rough go of it. After yelling at Rep. Jim Moran for having the audacity to bring up (gasp) Medicare in an interview about Terri Schiavo, Hannity continued ranting without realizing he was secretly being recorded. "I'm gonna pound him too like the other guy," said a seething Hannity. "What a jerk...Asshole. God I hate these people. You have no idea."
** A new conservative buzzword naturally complements all this idiocy: Pharmacists for Life. Yes, renegade pharmacists across the country are now refusing to fill prescriptions for birth control pills under the guise of "pharmacists' rights." A pharmacist in Texas even denied contraceptives to a rape victim. In related-news, Mississippi has passed, and Michigan is considering, legislation allowing doctors to reject gay patients on moral, religious or ethical grounds. Republicans are becoming so adept at passing ridiculous new laws that soon they won't have to break old ones.
