Dori,

Are from the Syracuse area? My son went to R.I.T. Whenever we went there to visit him, we would drive north on route 81 and check out a really whacked out billboard. It said "Welcome to the home of the Onandoga Indiation nation, Home of murderers rapists and thieves." I thought it was prejudiced whitey, then I mentioned it to my sister who lived in Syracuse for years. She said the sign was put up by rival Onandoga indians who were disputing tribal elections in the area. Very interesting indeed.

ollie

I am further west, between Buffalo and Rochester. We have problems in the southern tier and on Grand Island.

Have to admit, if I were native American I would not be at all happy with what this country has done to once proud people.

Our government was built partly on the rules the Seneca I believe, used for their people. Not up on my tribes anymore--once I did know more about them. Much of what the natives were living by went into our founding father's glorious ideals. We have them to thank for many of our 'democratic' ways of life.

Maybe someone will go to the American History forum and tell me about Red Coat. I found him so interesting, but fading memories don't hold onto things just because you want them to.
