My ex was doing a lot of reading while recovering from cancer surgery. He had to find the name and author of every book he wanted to read and request it through the library.

As for our local library--I used to give donatiions to it for specific purposes. The last time I gave, I was called a couple of days later and told the money was used for something 'the library could use. After all, no one wants to read anything liberal. She used the money to get a book about surging (sewing) which she herself would love to read. Her spiel continued for almost half an hour, down with the bad, up with the good.

Needless to say, I never wanted to give another penny to that library.

On edit: when my Dad died, a friend gave the library a book about railroads and trains as a memorial to him. It was a fantastic book and we were told it would stay in the reference section, not be loaned out. We got to see it once. The library sold it.
