Bucky, You don't understand "figurative" speech do you? Don't care who it is - Janet was giving an example of what Republicans do when it comes to Bush.

1. Illigal wire tapping - didn't see it, don't know anything about it.
2. Illigally signed a bill into law. Didn't see it, don't know anything about it.
3. Lie, after lie, after lie. Didn't hear ANY of them.
This list could go on and on and on............

If its something that has to do with making liberals look good its propaganda. If it makes (R) look good its truth. So bucky tell me what I should read. What books and films can I read or watch to make me educated like you. For some reason the only place I can go that will tell the truth about Bush is fair sites. No one wants to criticize him. Why is there fear. You dont have to be a liberal to see this man is doing a terrible job. Just look at his ratings. Its well below 70% for (R).

70% is a D in school. The R's give him a D and the country as a whole is rating him at (34%) which is a VERY low F.

From the buckshitforbrains.

He is of course talking about himself again. Being brainwashed he doesn't even realise what he says and how it applies to himself. Actually believing that the muslems are brainwashed and created terror, and how what they did will bring it to the USA. If he actually read books he would know that it was Americans who invented Al Qaeda and if he understood the role that America has played in creating terror then he would realise that America is bringing this "brainwashed masses" of the world on America as retribution for the greed and terror that America has used on them. But he doesn't know how to read, and these books are too complicated for his simple mind to comprehend. After all, when you are brainwashed with propaganda like bucky is, there is only room for shit in buckys brain.

Quote:
"The United States is not nearly so concerned that its acts be kept secret from its intended victims as it is that the American people not know of them."
--former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark

They sow the wind and reap the whirlwind..."
--Hosea 8:9

The roots of Al Qaeda
http://www.bidstrup.com/hate.htm
On July 3, 1979, President Jimmy Carter signed a document that would, through the blowback it would cause, eventually seal the fate of nearly 3,000 innocent people in New York, Washington D.C. and the plains of central Pensylvania a quarter-century later. He signed the first directive to provide secret aid to the opponents of the pro-Soviet regime in Afghanistan. With the benefit of that aid, they would engage in ruthless acts of terror and sabotage, throughout the entire Afghan nation and lead to the destabilization its government. It was ultimately intended to induce a Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, drawing them into what would be called Russia's Vietnam, bringing untold misery and suffering to the people of Afghanistan. It would provide support to a new group of Islamic fundamentalists, known as the Taliban, and their allies, a secret, violent terrorist group known as Al Qaeda, run by the son of one of Saudi Arabia's princes, whose connections could provide the covert economic support to get it going.

The principle architect of this plan was Carter's National Security Adviser, Zbigniew Brzezinski. When the war was finally over, and the country had effectively been devastated to the point of living in the Stone Age, Brzezinski was asked if he regretted the suffering he had caused. His reply was telling for its sheer arrogance, hubris and shortsightedness:

"Regret what? That secret operation was an excellent idea. It had the effect of drawing the Russians into the Afghan trap and you want me to regret it? The day that the Soviets officially crossed the border, I wrote to President Carter, essentially: 'We now have the opportunity of giving the USSR its Vietnam War.'"

The interviewer from the National Observer asked, "And neither do you regret having supported Islamic fundamentalism, which has given arms and advice to future terrorists?" His response:

"What is more important in world history? The Taliban or the collapse of the Soviet empire? Some agitated Muslims or the liberation of Central Europe and the end of the cold war?"

Because of his ego and hubris, what Brzezinski was determined not see is that the Soviet empire did not collapse because of the brilliance of his little secret operation, it collapsed because the command economy and the totalitarian system that supported it was unsustainable over the long term. It had grown progressively weaker through the decades and was on the verge of collapse anyway. The Soviet empire would inevitably have collapsed within a few years even if it had not invaded Afghanistan. The Afghanistan adventure was merely a precipitating event, but there surely would have been others.
But the support for the Taliban and the fostering of Al Qaeda would have long term consequences that would eventually become huge indeed, leading to a horrible terrorist incident of unprecedented scale, causing an ugly scar on the American psyche. It would create a force for terrorism and instability that will take decades, if not centuries to repair. For while the USSR was destined to soon be consigned to "the dustbin of history" anyway, insults suffered by Islam are remembered and recounted in detail for centuries by Islamic militants. Indeed, many Muslim school children today can recite in graphic detail atrocities commited against Muslims by Christian crusaders a thousand years ago. These are wounds that are not allowed to heal. And what was to become the Afghanistan betrayal and its aftermath was destined to become one of these wounds.

So how did Al Qaeda, originally funded, supported and nurtured by the CIA, come to become America's most serious terrorist enemy?

It was the result of another arrogant, ill-considered act of American foreign policy. After the Soviets had bombed Afghanistan back to the Stone Age but had been defeated and left under the gun, America simply walked away. Rather than helping the victors secure the country, repair the damage and build a nation with democratic institutions and a modern, western outlook, America simply abandoned them to their fate. Why not? Arrogant, hubristic and selfish leaders in America, like Brzezinski, had got what they wanted. Why hang around?

Inevitably, warlords arose during the post-war power-vacuum in Afghanistan and a two-decade-long civil war developed that radicalized Muslims throughout the Islamic world, not just the Middle East. But the United States did nothing. The Taliban and Al Qaeda had served their purpose, so the suffering of the Afghanis was of no importance to the leaders of America. This abandonment really rankled. That was enough to anger the Islamic world, but it wasn't the end of the insults. There was more to come. Much more.

The final parting of the ways between Al Qaeda and the CIA happened during the first Gulf War. President George Bush Sr. stationed American troops, infidels almost to a man, in Saudi Arabia to help prop up that thoroughly corrupt and indifferent regime, against the will of most of the Saudi population - mostly because that regime was friendly to the United States and was happy to be compliant with Washington's wishes, but it had little support and needed to be propped up. And, at the end of the war, Bush failed to withdraw them as he had promised when they arrived. To the deeply religious Osama Bin Laden, this was an intolerable insult and an unsufferable transgression against Islam. It was tatamount to an occupation, by infidels, of the holiest region in all of Islam (see below). It could not be allowed to continue. If ever there were a cause for a jihad (holy war), Osama saw this as that cause. Osama's pleas were ignored. His warnings fell on ears totally deaf to the religious and political sensibilities of Islam.

To send a message that could not be ignored, Osama engineered the bombings of the American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. The coordinated explosions happened almost simultaneously and killed hundreds, devastating both buildings and many buildings surrounding them. And the response, the war against Al Qaeda, began, when President Bill Clinton sent cruise missles into Afghanistan to destroy the Al Qaeda training camps there. It wasn't hard to find the training camps. The military knew right where they were. After all, the CIA had helped build them.

As horrific as the African embassy bombings were, and subsequent bombings of troop barracks in Saudi Arabia were, they, and the retaliation they spawned, was quickly forgotten by the American public. But Osama was determined to send a message that Americans could not forget. And so, on September 11, 2001, that message was delivered. And unfortunately, the meaning of that message was totally lost on the American public, due to the determined obfuscation by America's political leadership.

And this war against the monster America itself created, will continue.

Whether Osama is responsible for 911 or not is irrelevant. The trouble was started by the Americans, and now it will rain down on them for many years. A fine book on America's complicity is called- Devil's Game: How the United States Helped Unleash Fundamentalist Islam (American Empire Project) by Robert Dreyfuss.

Starting in the early 1900s, and picking up after WWII, western powers fought against nationalistic groups throughout N. Africa and the Middle East. They did this by allying with and aiding local Muslim fundamentalist organizations, such as the Wahabis in Saudi Arabia, the ayatollahs in Iran, and the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. The nationalist groups were secular and progressive, and made easy targets for the religious fervor of the Islamists to campaign against them in various ways overt and covert. This was encouraged by the US thru the CIA, the embassies, international organizations such as the IMF and World Bank, and treaties of all sorts. The initial results were civil strife throughout the Arab world. This was followed by the rise of Islamist groups throughout the Muslim world, most noticeably the rise of Hamas in Palestine.

By reading this book, one comes to understand that the actions of the US during the Cold War helped to create Al Queda, Hamas, Hezbollah, the Taliban, and various other Muslim fundamentalist groups both local and international. This then was the Devil's game that the US played. By siding with Islamists the US betted that together they could defeat communism. This happened, but what came after might be a lot worse.

Dreyfuss reports that Israeli intelligence--particularly the Mossad--not only endorsed but participated in the creation and development of Hamas as an organization that could be used to defeat the PLO. "In the early 1980s", Dreyfuss writes, "Israel supported the Islamists on several fronts. It was, of course, supporting the Gaza and West Bank Islamists that, in 1987, would found Hamas . . . They were trying to defeat Arab nationalism with Muslim zealots." Hamas's recent electoral victory was hardly the surprise that mainstream media reported it to be. In reality, it was a rather predictable response to a gradual increase in support for Hamas over recent years inspired by the marginalization of Arafat and the PLO by Bush and Sharon (conspicuously absent from Dreyfuss's analysis, however, is that corruption within the Fatah party also contributed to Hamas's surge in popularity). As Dreyfuss's book documents, "in 1996, only 15 percent of Palestinians backed the Islamists", but, by 2002, that support had risen to 42 percent.

The U.S. routinely supported Islamist movements from the early stages of the Cold War era on into much more recent years, forging relationships with any fundamentalist group or leader that American intelligence viewed as a tool against communism, despite knowledge of their involvement in terrorism or human rights abuses. The cataclysmic flaw in this policy became especially apparent after the U.S. left Afghan freedom fighters out to dry when the USSR withdrew from battle there. An entire force of CIA-trained Jihadists was abandoned without any regard for where they would invest their acquired skills, leaving a wasteland of warlords to reign over an Afghanistan that would soon give birth to the Taliban and bin-Laden's Al-Qaeda organization, which absorbed much of the suddenly unemployed freedom fighters into a militantly anti-western army whose influence spread across many nations. "We knew exactly who these people were, and what their organizations were like, and we didn't care" says a Rand corporation expert on political Islam. While Dreyfuss's notably balanced investigation into this topic tends not to explicitly link 9/11 to the history of American policy in the mid-east, it is fairly difficult for the reasonable reader to conclude otherwise. Even Dreyfuss cannot help but indulge in the ominous observation that the consequences of this environment "would become painfully obvious on September 11, 2001." Such a conclusion is consistent with the kind of "blowback" which, as Dreyfuss's narrative suggests, was an inevitable consequence of American ignorance, avarice, arrogance and fear.

Two perfect--if not essential--companion pieces to Dreyfuss's excellent book are Chalmers Johnson's "Blowback" and "the Sorrows of Empire", which further explore the motives behind American exploits in the mid-east while documenting their tragic ramifications for global stability.

The reckless interventionism of U.S. foreign policy under administrations of both parties has exposed Americans both overseas and in the homeland to security risks that were not necessary to the fulfillment of any genuine national interest. Now that Bush and the neoconservatives seek to enmesh us in yet another generation of Arab-Islamic quarrels, it is prudent for us to step back and consider what we wrought with our last go-around.

So once again we see that bucky is nothing but a parrot of the propagandists, and with his mindless repeating of his pointless rhetoric he hopes to draw us into his brainwashed world where everything is someone elses fault for terror. This is blame shifting and works well in the neo-con world, where poorly educated children spew out the appropriate candy coated lies that make America seem to be the poor innocent in all of this terror. The opposite is really the truth, as America is the #1 terrorist in the world, and so has to fight off insurgency and revenge from others who are sick and tired of the bullshit and lies that America believes. If bucky could get that straight then one day he might see that he is the traitor and is the reasdon that America is getting weaker and ready to collapse, just like his heros in the Soviet Union did. Start reading these books and get informed, before its too late to help America like we're doing, bucky. I'll bet he wishes the communists were his only enemy now, instead of the beehive that America stirred up.

For those who forgot what this post was about, it is about some must read books of our times. Please go back to the top and review these important books again, especially the ones with asterics.

Bucky has a way of sidetracking a post into his little paranoid delusional world.

Here are a couple I have heard are excellent.

"Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" by John Perkins.

Tells how we have gone around the world economically toppling countries. I am told it is a must read.

"Overthrow" by Steven Kinzer.

We have been taking territory away from native peoples for centuries. This book starts at Hawaii and brings us through to today. Riviting from what I am told.

I am not able to read except on a computer. Need that large print and backlight. If I can find any of these on tape, I am anxious to 'read' them!

And thank you for the excellent books you have listed above. I will be looking for them, too.

Reading is fundamental......

Woops! Forgot to say 'thank you' for the Scott Bidstrup piece. When my old computer went down, it took everything with it.

I love Bidstrup, really in touch with reality. So glad to have his site back again.

Thank you!

Best of all is that you're back and well. Hello dori . Long time no hear from. Things have changed here. Catherine left because of issues with some members. But other than that, a small dedicated group of good people still here.

Nice to know you're back.

Nice to see you DO.g's. I was 'without computer' for months and believe me, I missed everything about that! No information, no researching, no friendly chit-chat.

I do hope bucky is off for good, and his friends as well.

I have no idea what motivates people who get their kicks in life from making others unhappy. To each his own, but keep it in your own neighborhood, eh?

I have a couple more books to list but don't have them at my fingertips at the moment. Will be back.....

Just want to say--so good to see you!
