Read this poignant story written by a woman who cared for her husband during the last few years of his life following a stroke:

A Last Labor of Love

We never know when something might happen like this to us or to someone we love.

Touching and sad. Not everyone would have the courage and strength to do this. She and her husband were very fortunate people to have each other.

Absolutely, dori. I remember the love and tender care my father gave to my mother after her stroke. He refused to have a person come in at night to help with her, even my sister or me, saying that the two of them could "work together" to take care of Mom's nighttime needs. And they did just that. While her daytime caregiver allowed Dad to go about his daily activities, Mom's care and supervision fell to him after 3 pm...and he was faithful to that responsibility until his own death.

I think that I would feel the same way about my husband should he ever require that kind of care, and I would do my best to give it.

Some people deserve each other. Sometimes, even when there are problems, life has it's rewards. Disguised as they may be, one has to be in touch to be able to experience them.

That is why it is always a good idea to count our blessings. They might not be with us tomorrow, so we have to enjoy and appreciate them while they are here.

I am sure you would give that kind of care to your husband, and he to you. It is so good you found each other.

You know it's true love with events like these, like the mates who take care of their loved ones with cancer or some other affliction.
