It looks like Air America is having financial problems again. I guess that's what happens when you actually have to pay radio stations to carry your programs. I've heard that Al Franken & Co. has to pay about $1,000,000 a year to the station that carries them in Los Angeles. But -- rest assured: If Air America is having a tough time it certainly isn't because people just aren't listening. It's not because people get tired of the 24/7 ranting of far-left talk show hosts, many of who have tried to make it on actual commercial viable radio stations, but couldn't. Nope .. Air America's troubles are all the fault of the evil right-wingers. Danny Goldberg is the CEO of Air America .. he says "In almost all cases, the people who say bad things about our company's business are conservative ideologues who have a particular interest in damaging Air America," By the way, if you like conservative talk radio, you have every reason to want to keep Air America on the air. Democrats and assorted socialists are more than anxious to use the power of government to shut down talk radio ... Air America gives us breathing room.

Right Wing Media Gets Desperate!

Recently, Air America Radio came under attack from the same cast of right wing media characters who have attacked the Network for ideological reasons from day one.

A recent piece in the New York Post by John Mainelli states that “Air America is in...bad financial shape.” On September 20th Bill O’Reilly on Fox News which, like the New York Post is owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation said that Air America “could be on its last legs.”

This is untrue.

Air America is in strong financial shape. Last week we started broadcasting from our new multi-million dollar studios. Several weeks earlier the Board of Directors of Air America’s parent company accelerated re-payment of a loan from the Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club of $875,000 two years in advance of a previously agreed upon re-payment plan. In the last several months, Air America has expanded its executive team to augment our efforts on the internet and in affiliate relations.

Air America Radio Announces Ratings Gains For Rhodes and Franken

During the Fall ratings period, Air America Radio says its flagship station, WLIB/1190 AM made gains with various shows.

Specifically - in Men, 25-54 (3 - 7 p.m.) - “The Randi Rhodes Show,” received a 3.3 Share against WABC’s Sean Hannity, who received a 3.0 share. (Hannity's program airs from 3-6 p.m.)

In New York, Al Franken is heard Noon until 3 p.m. on WLIB and Bill O'Reilly's show airs 2 - 4 p.m on WOR so they actually only go head-to-head for one hour. But, during that overlapping hour of 2 - 3 p.m., "The Al Franken Show" pulled in a 2.3 share of Persons 12+ where O’Reilly earned a 2.1. Also, in adults 25-54 during the same period, Franken had a 2.3 share and O’Reilly a 0.8.
