According to sources on Capitol Hill, U.S. Representative Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) punched a Capitol police officer on Wednesday afternoon after he mistakenly pursued her for failing to pass through a metal detector.

Members of Congress are not required to pass through metal detectors.

Sources say that the officer was at a position in the Longworth House Office Building, and did not recognize McKinney, nor saw her credentials as she went around the metal detector.

The officer called out, “Ma’am, Ma’am,” and walked after her in an attempt to stop her. When he caught McKinney, he grabbed her by the arm.

Witnesses say McKinney pulled her arm away, and with her cell phone in hand, punched the officer in the chest.

McKinney’s office has not responded to requests for comment.

According to the Drudge Report, the entire incident is on tape.

Drudge continues, "The cop is pressing charges, and the USCP (United States Capitol Police) are waiting until Congress adjurns to arrest her, a source claims."

Lets see.....I am walking along minding my own business and doing what I do naturally. I have done nothing wrong and some guy comes up and grabs me by the arm. I would have slugged the creep too. How would I know he wasn't going to mug me?

Rep. McKinney has 5th run-in with security
WASHINGTON, March 30 (UPI) -- For the fifth time since 1993, U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney, D-Ga., had a run-in with Washington security personnel when an officer failed to recognize her.

An unidentified Capitol Police officer said he stopped McKinney and asked her for identification Wednesday morning as she tried to enter a government building while talking on her cell phone. He claims she whirled around and hit him on the chest, The Hill reported Thursday.

Capitol Police had no comment and said they were investigating.

Members of Congress are allowed to enter into the buildings without passing through security screening.

In 1993, Capitol Police posted a photo of McKinney on an office wall so officers could remember who she was after she complained. Then in 1995, she complained again about being stopped.

In 1996 and 1998, she complained that White House security officials did not give her the same treatment as other members of Congress, at one time mistaking her 23-year-old white aide for her. McKinney is black.

"I am absolutely sick and tired of having to have my appearance at the White House validated by white people," she said at the time.

On a day when the Democrats are promoting their national security agenda, it's probably not a good idea for them to allegedly strike police officers.

So, Cynthia McKinney can't enter Congressional buildings without constantly being stopped by security. That's strange. If I saw Rep. McKinney on the street, I would recognise her. Yet, the security cops, who see her every day don't know who she is. I wonder if Tom DeLay gets stopped by security when he bypasses the metal detector.

why don't you ask delay . it's still no reason to punch a cop.

Perhaps you didn't know it, but using taxpayer funds for political fundraising is against the rules of the U.S. House of Representatives. It now seems that Cynthia McKinney took $1000 from her congressional office budget to fly Isaac Hayes to her district last year. He was there to be the headliner at a political fundraiser for McKinney. Cynthia McKinney has broken the law. Now it looks like McKinney is going to have to pay that money back somehow. Obviously, this rule is racist. It was put in place to nothing more than to harass black female members of congress and to prevent them from using taxpayer funds to fly black singers to fundraising events. The ugly specter of racism rears its ugly head in America, the land of white privilege, yet again.

If thats true.....then there had better be 535 indictments, plus the current cabinet. Never slap the hand that feeds you.
