Answer: probably. Republicans since Jefferson have seen freedom and capitalism as the most potent anti-poverty program ever devised on earth. Democrats have always ignored the extremely obviously results that freedom as achieved for everyone. To gain power over the system, ( a natural urge seen throughout all of world history that our Constitution was designed to prevent), when none is needed, Democrats exploit the results of capitalism by simply defining the lest successful capitalists as, not successful enough. It doesn't matter whether its 1810, 1910, or 2010. The least successful are never successful enough and accordingly encouraged to sell their votes to Democrats who in turn promise to steal on their behalf from the more successful classes. This encourages the least successful to think in terms of being successful voters rather than successful capitalists, and the ranks of the least successful then swell to produce new generations of Democrats.

Sadly for all Americans, the Democratic view of freedom and capitalism is very similar to the Socialist/Communist view. This is why the KGB has said it looked among Democrats for spies. This is why after 200 years of success Democrats still require a growing State. To be sure, some fiddling with capitalism may be necessary to help for example, the aged, who can't participate in the economic system but this is not to be confused with the anti freedom, class warfare, "Two Americans" , socialist strategy that Democrats are exploiting more and more despite a capitalist system that has for centuries always produced more and more wealth.

Uh, Jefferson was a Democrat.

In 1800 the party was called the Republican-Democrats. The opposition was called the Federalist party. Federalist president John Adams was defeated in 1800 by Jefferson mainly due to public outrage over the Federalist's "Alien and Sedition Act", which was the "Patriot Act" of their day. The Federalists were disgraced, and never won a national election again. Jefferson's Republican-Democratic party eventually became simply the Democratic party, a name we retain to this day.

Sadly, I find little difference between Lincoln and Bush. At least Bush starts his military adventures overseas, Lincoln killed those who had once been citizens of his own country. Other than that, their administrations are all but the same.

i guess one could spin the idea that since democrats believe in more american directed social programs, you could find some similarity with communisms social programs...if you used a little imagination.

however, the republicans, who voice their opposition to social programs aimed at helping fellow americans, like to claim they are more "patriotic" in regards to america's well being. but, one has to wonder why a political party, who claims to be ultra-patriotic, would be more willing to invest billions of dollars into rebuilding iraq, while ignoring their own country's needs? this certainly questions one's "patriotism". i guess investing in america doesn't have the return those patriotic republicans are looking for...afterall, fuck my fellow citizen, i need to make money on my investments, and there is money to be made in iraq.

so, one has to wonder what's more devastating to america: those who wish to invest in america, or those who turn their backs on america and invest in iraq?
