The only purpose for the police seems to be mind and attitude control as they only protect the poor when they are in conflict with the elitist ideals of what society stands for, or each other. Plato stated that it is up to a government to pay their protective forces as little as possible, to keep them dependant on the system, but now we pay them well enough to ensure that the sysyems rights are upheld above the requests of the poorer segments of societies demands. Much like the way the police appear when there is violence in society, they control our attitude towards those that need the most protection, and the military guarantees that we don't move aggressively by taking up arms against the unfair greed and injustice of a system designed to protect the rights of land owners first over the rights of its citizens to assemble and protest the injustices and inequalities of life in Americas streets.

Meanwhile, the police protect and serve the new colonies of gated communities from the wars in the streets. They're allowed to use the force necessary to quell social unrest while the corrupt government goes about its dirty business safe in knowing they have conspired the perfect cover. To serve and protect them from us- To service and maintain their standard of living.
