Protecting Pets from Domestic Violence
March 5, 2007 issue - The couple had a fight—and the woman returned home to find the body of her gray-and-white kitten, decapitated, in her front yard. (Court papers didn't ID the Bethalto, Ill., woman.) Similar incidents are prompting lawmakers to try to protect animals from abusers. Maine, New York and Vermont have already passed laws, and 11 other states are considering measures that would allow pets and farm animals to be included in orders of protection requested by victims of domestic violence.

Good luck on this. I know so many people who just dismiss anything that happens to animals because 'they have no souls'.
In my book, I wonder about the souls of the people who hold this opinion. It really opens the question of what a soul is.
DO.g's would have a great, involved answer to this one, I will just say a soul is a figment of one's imagination.
