This story is from CA, but may become more common in other states if the economy continues to tank.

This is a case of the ever enlarging snowball. Here in Arizona, in an effort to "save" money, these kids are denied basic things like a spot in classroom or basic meals. They have no rent receipts or utility bills needed to gain admission to the classroom. Many others are singled out to receive the "special" cold-cheese sandwich bag-lunch if they are unable to provide the need documentation for a free lunch. If children are denied the opportunity to get an even break in the classroom, how can we expect them to become full participating citizens later on in life?

truely scary thoughts about how real the ecomnomic crash is going to be.

bush and the gop brought us to this point..................

................and the ones who'll suffer the most are our nations most precious recource, our children.

but limpballs and hannity are frantically attempting to rewrite history to turn things around to make it look like this crisis is owned by obama.

our job is to make sure that doesn't happen.

blitz the net and write editorials to your local newspaper.

That is totally criminal, APL. Sadly though, the cold-cheese sandwich is better than the pile of nothing that kids get here. Or actually, what they will do is give the child a lunch for 3 days with no money, each day "charging" it by letting the "pta lunch fund" pay, but sending a bill to the parent. After 3 days they say they don't even let the kid eat, though I've never seen that happen because either the parent comes up with the TWO DOLLARS A DAY plus the upcoming day's money, or another teacher pays for the kids lunch. I know I've done it.

And you do have to prove you live here with 2 utility bills.
