Thank You for stopping by The Public Record, a nonprofit, independent, investigative news magazine.
We've noticed a recent rise in visitors and wanted to take a moment to say hello. We have cultivated the best, the brightest, and the bravest journalistic minds and provided them with a media outlet to showcase their work.
Large multinational corporations now own virtually every major newspaper and television network, our sources for our news. Too often the broadcast networks allow their editorial decisions to be influenced by what will bring the most viewers and highest rating and by extension the highest advertising revenue.
Our trusted news sources are now just one division of a vast corporation that has a responsibility to shareholders and the bottom line, not informing the populace.
As Jessica Yellin, from CNN said recently,
"When the lead-up to war began, the press corps was under enormous pressure from corporate executives, frankly, to make sure that this was a war that was presented in a way that was consistent with the patriotic fever in the nation and the president's high approval ratings."
We need your help to make The Public Record a success.

Our goal is simple, to provide those that are looking for it, deeper knowledge and understanding of the issues and news that affect their lives. We will make use of the massive amounts of information that exists in the public record to report and uncover those original stories that others are not. The Public Record will continue the tradition of muckracking journalists like I.F. Stone because "there is a wealth of important information in the public record if one simply took the time to search for it."
We believe that by using readily available sources in the public record we can help illuminate the world for our readers.
Without a free and independent media we cannot have an open and transparent society where each of us is judged on our own merits. We haven't had that free and independent media for some time now. As Katie Couric, anchor of the CBS evening news said, " there was insidious pressure that I do think actually affected some of the coverage from some of the media outlets"
