If you've not heard of KGO's Ray Taliaferro, give him a listen. His show streams over the internet from the west coast (1a-5a).

Ray made the point that we, in this country, seem to go out of our way to get "distracted". We know the political and social problems (if not crisis), yet we spend more time with our distractions. Namely, all those season ending sporting events, all those epic TV shows, etc.

I can definitely see that. In my house, I don't get to control the TV. And end up eating fast, because the rest of the family would rather watch all those entertainment news shows. After that, American Idol, Survivor, Dancing with the Stars, etc., seem to occupy the prime time. :(

I see what you are saying, CZ. People I talk with don't have time for politics or what is good for the country or it's people. Their time is taken up with the shows you mentioned and sports. It is their life!

If you ever want to feel alone in a crowded room...

And it's not just the TV, it's all the computer games.

I've got nothing against that stuff in so-called "moderation", but it seems that people devote too much time these diversions and not enough time to understanding how we got so messed up.

It doesn't help that we have 24/7 of right wing radio and TV dripping misinformation. The people I have talked with feel they are very well informed. I am seen as a crazy person.

And I don't see a Fairness Doctrine coming back into the picture.
