Quote:
It's not that the reporters covering the president are bad at their jobs. Most are experienced journalists at the top of their game -- and they're wasted at the White House, where scoops are doled out, not uncovered. The day of a typical White House correspondent consists, literally, of waiting to be told things. Legitimate security concerns and a tightly scripted political world keep the presidential press corps physically corralled and informationally hostage.
I think that we can all agree that the Press Corps is pretty useless, but why?
First thing that I thought when I read this quote was, yes, these reporters ARE bad at their jobs.
If they want the Press Corps to be usefull, I think that they should send in about 100 Helen Thomas's. No, really, send in reporters who ask questions which the establishment does NOT want people to ask and then press them until they give a satisfactory answer.
This has nothing to do with the so called security concerns. Lets take the start of the war in Iraq for example. Almost every single one of us here knew that there were no weapons of mass destruction, the so called yellowcake documents were forgery, among many, many other things. Did the Press hound the former president? Did they ask day after day after day about any discrepencys? NO.
This author is right. Get rid of the Press Corps. Not because they are doing their jobs, but because they are useless cowards.
Dave.
