Citgo to stop selling gas at U.S. stations

JUL. 12 4:50 P.M. ET Venezuela-owned Citgo Petroleum Corp. has decided to stop distributing gasoline to some 1,800 independently owned stations in the United States following calls by President Hugo Chavez to nix contracts that benefit U.S. consumers more than Venezuelans.

The Citgo brand will disappear entirely from 10 states and be less common in four additional states by March 2007, when the change goes into affect, Citgo spokesman Fernando Garay said Wednesday.

The move will allow Citgo, which is wholly owned by Venezuela's state oil company, to shed a lackluster segment of its business while forcing the owners of those stations to find other suppliers.

Chavez has long claimed that parts of Citgo's business produce losses for Venezuela and constitute a subsidy for the U.S. economy.

Venezuela is the world's fifth-largest oil exporter and the U.S. is its top buyer. The United States relied on Venezuela for about 11 percent of its oil supply in 2005.

The gas station less than a mile from my home sells CITGO, and I always fill up there, even though it's a bit higher. This makes me sad because I felt that I was doing something to thumb my nose at the big oil companies that get their gas from the ME.

BUT, I understand Chavez's reasons for doing this....

Add another target for not bowing to the Us of Israel.

OH NO! I always buy my gas at Citgo. It was my middle finger at the global oil cartel and the Bush administration.

Well now there is a coalition of second and third world countries that can not compete against the military super power that the neo cons have taken control of. It should not surprise anyone that our finance would be attacked it is our weakness. I would not be surprised if OPEC turned off the spigot or manipulated the price.
This psychotic administration has turned the world against us.
