Bush: Critics Of Gitmo, Abu Ghraib And Rendition Are ‘Slandering America’

During an interview with President Bush on Britain’s Sky News yesterday, Sky political editor Adam Boulton noted that while Bush talks “a lot about freedom,” there are many who say that some of the Bush administration’s torture and detention policies represent “the complete opposite of freedom.” But Bush quickly snapped back, saying those criticizing his policies are slandering America:

BOULTON: There are those who would say look, lets take Guantanamo Bay, and Abu Ghraib, and rendition and all those things and to them that is the complete opposite of freedom.

BUSH: Of course, if you want to slander America.

This guy gets more delusional every day. Two salient points:

1. To be slanderous the statements need to be untrue. Comments about Gitmo, Abu Ghraib, rendition, et al are backed up by cold hard facts.

2. Even though the War Chimp occupies the White House, this does not make him synonymous with the country. YOU, Mr. Decider, are a murderous war criminal, and have done more harm to the cause of true democracy than could have ever been imagined. Unwrap that flag you wear, so everyone can see the emperor has no clothes.

Bush needs to get his stories straight. Was he aware of torture or not? Was torture good or bad? Sheesh!

Bush: Abu Ghraib 'a disappointment'

WASHINGTON, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- U.S. President George Bush says the revelation of prisoner torture at Abu Ghraib in Iraq was "a terrible disappointment."

In the latest of a series of interviews he has been giving in the waning days of his presidency in which he has acknowledged certain regrets, Bush told the Saudi Arabian network MBC-TV, in comments released Sunday, that the abuse of Iraqi prisoners by U.S. military jailers had damaged American prestige.

"Abu Ghraib was a terrible disappointment," Bush said. "And admittedly, I wasn't there on the site, but I was the commander-in-chief of a military where these disgraceful acts took place that sent the absolute wrong image about America and our military."

He actually believes we are going to fall for that? What it gave is the right image of the BFEE.

Even Johnny has to come-around on this one:

Prisoner abuse started at the top

Quote:

The period when the U.S. government officially condoned harsh and abusive interrogation techniques - low-grade torture, really - at Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo Bay and the CIA's secret prisons was a low one for our standing in the world and our self-image at home.

The waterboarding, sexual humiliation, stress positions, extreme temperatures and attack dogs were not who were are as a people. Now that period has been decisively rejected in a report by the Senate Armed Services Committee, its chairman, Carl Levin, D-Mich., and senior Republican, John McCain of Arizona.

The committee, 13 Democrats and 12 Republicans, found, without dissent, that those techniques "damaged our ability to collect accurate intelligence that could save lives, strengthened the hand of our enemies and compromised our moral authority." In effect, along with the other drawbacks of abusing detainees, it just didn't work.
