The Times lists the following people under "other key positions," beyond the cabinet, in alphabetical order by title:

Finally, there is a list at the bottom of the page called "Other Likely Top Advisers," which is probably where one or two "real" sources of influence are creeping through even as we speak.

Currently the governor of Arizona Napolitano will be replaced by the current Arizona Secretary of State, Repug Jan Brewer. Brewer was a strong proponent of electronic voting machines as Secretary of State. She uses 20 year old pictures on her web site and for campaigning purposes. She has all the charm of Sarah Palin and none of the looks. Arizona gets screwed twice for having supplied Obama's opponent that won Arizona by a large margin. We lose the strongest Democrat in the Governor's chair in the last fifty years and get an airhead for replacement.

Additionally, Napolitano's new job is pretty thankless and she will be the fall guy if there ever is a terrorist attack during Obama's term. No one lost their job for 9/11 under Bush, but Roger Johnson lost his job as head of the GSA (General Services Administration) after the Oklahoma City bombing. Johnson was a Republican who early on supported Clinton. Dems tend to scapegoat someone while the Repugs tend to foist off to the previous Dem administration.

You must be bummed, APL. At least New York is mostly blue, only the rural areas are red. We lost a Governor because a smart person did something unbelievably stupid. We are losing a Senator but she should be replaced by another Dem.

You have to admit, the country is pretty well represented in those administration officials.

Video: Obama’s first official USAF flight.

On Jan. 4, President-elect Obama arrived at Andrews Air Force Base “aboard a presidential aircraft for the first time as the principal passenger, as he moved to Washington from his home town of Chicago.” Although the Boeing 757 wasn’t officially designated Air Force One, it was painted like the presidential plane and “flight stewards and ground staff wore jackets embroidered with the Air Force One logo, and presidential seals decorated the plane’s interior.” National Geographic (via FlightBlogger) captured what happened on Obama’s first official USAF flight. Watch it

Obama On Al-Arabiya: First Formal Interview As President With Arabic Cable TV Network

Barack Obama will do his first formal interview as president with an Arabic cable TV network, ABC News reports. The interview is set to air at 11pm EST, it reports.

As special envoy to the Middle East, George Mitchell heads off to the region to begin work on negotiating a cease fire between Israel and the Palestinians, President Obama has sat for his first formal TV interview with the Arabic cable TV network Al-Arabiya, ABC News has learned.
Al Arabiya is a 24-hour Arabic news channel based in Dubai that broadcasts across five continents, according to its website.

With a global network of correspondents and bureaus in 40 major cities around the world, Al Arabiya has become a leading source of Arabic-language news throughout the world.
