Cheney Is Hurting The Party, Say Republican Insiders

National Journal poll of top GOP political insiders and strategists finds that Republicans believe former Vice President Dick Cheney has hurt the party since leaving office.

Of 100 insiders polled, fully 57 percent believe Cheney has hurt the party, and only 33 percent believe he has helped. The poll also includes quotes from unnamed insiders.

"Anything that reminds the public of the Bush administration harms the party's ability to turn the page. If he'd had any concern for his public image when he was in office, he wouldn't have to worry as much about defending his reputation now."

"There is nothing Dick Cheney can say or do to help the Republican Party today. The best thing he can do is disappear for the next 10 years."

The country is hurting, big time, from eight years of the Bush/Cheney policies.

The next speech Cheney makes should come from a jail cell. (Maybe we can keep GITMO open for just one prisoner.)

Good idea.. like Spandau Prison where Rudolf Hess spent the last four decades of his life. AND make sure Cheney gets no more than Hess got as "amenities."

Quote:
Inside the fence was a 28-yard ''dead space'' in which even guards were forbidden to walk at will. Access to the prison was through a guardhouse, which itself formed part of a 15-foot inner brick wall, and the Spartan cells for the seven inmates were on a single floor, in the building behind the wall. A Severe Regimen

There also were two small yards that served as the prisoners' access to the light of day.

Glaring lights and an eerie silence, broken occasionally by birdsong or a plane's drone overhead, prevailed. The rules, at first Draconian, were relaxed slightly over Soviet protests in the 1950's to maintain the prisoners' health and sanity.

Even so, the regimen remained severe, with letters or visits few and far between, sparse and strictly limited reading matter, and no talk permitted among prisoners, or between them and the guards, except under special circumstances.

Spandau Prison: Hess's Lonely Dungeon

Maybe someday we'll read about "Cheney's Lonely Dungeon," and "Bush's Lonely Dungeon."
