MORE GOP MADNESS!

GOP Stumbles Explaining Double Standard On Tax Cuts

Democrats and Republicans in Congress are having a difficult time figuring out how to accomplish a common, and politically urgent goal. Specifically, they both agree that a provision in the health care law that steps up enforcement of business' tax reporting requirements has to go. It's too burdensome, they all agree.

Set aside whether they're right or not, the reason they're having a hard time getting it done is that they disagree about how to offset the impact on the deficit. Reducing the tax burden on businesses means reducing the amount of money the Treasury collects, and thus a big hole in the budget.

But wait! Don't Republicans all believe that tax cuts (or 'tax relief,' as they prefer) don't need to be offset with spending cuts or tax hikes elsewhere in the budget? Yes indeed they do. Just not in this case, where it pertains to the health care law -- and they're tying themselves up in knots trying to square their conflicting views.

For instance, here's Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl (R-AZ), talking to reporters last year about the standards the GOP applies to tax cuts and new spending -- specifically unemployment.

"My view, and I think most of the people in my party don't believe that you should ever have to offset a tax cut," he said.

On Tuesday, after a Republican Senate Leadership briefing at the Capitol, we put the same question to him -- this time about repealing the so-called 1099 requirement in the health care law. If tax cuts don't need to be offset, why does this tax cut need to be offset.

"This isn't passing a tax cut, this is repealing a tax increase in effect," Kyl said. "The 1099 requirement was a revenue raiser of something like $17 billion to help pay for 'ObamaCare' and should have never been put on the legislation."

Don't be surprised to see this new standard applied to other parts of the health care law as well. Repealing existing taxes on businesses and the wealthy will always pass muster. But any existing taxes passed as part of the health care law will have to be offset by stripping away another chunk of the law -- as will likely happen this time.

AND HERE COMES THAT MISCARRIED FETUS-DISPLAYING IDIOT, RICK SANTORUM, MOUTHING MORE OF HIS IDIOCY ABOUT HOW ABORTIONS ARE WHY SOCIAL SECURITY IS IN TROUBLE!

RICK SANTORUM: BLAME ABORTION FOR SOCIAL SECURITY WOES!

Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) mixed social and fiscal conservatism on Tuesday, claiming that legalized abortion was a prime contributor to future funding shortfalls for Social Security.

"We don't have enough workers to support the retirees," Santorum said in a radio interview. "Well, a third of all the young people in America are not in America today because of abortion."

OH, LORD...WHAT A MORON! :drunken:  :bounce:

BUT HERE'S A REAL THINKER'S RESPONSE TO THE SANTORUM IDIOCY SEEN AT THE LINK; POSTED BY MAN'S BEST FRIEND:

Things that make you go hmmm....

Roe v. Wade was 1973. So the fetuses that were aborted in 1973 would just be getting to retirement age in 2038, which is when the SS trust fund runs out. So wouldn't they be making the problem WORSE instead of better?

FRESH GOPer WONDERS IF OBAMA WILL ATTACK AFRICA AFTER LIBYA!

The old joke goes that most people can't find whatever country the United States is at war with on a map.

Same seems to be true for Rep. Tom Marino (R-PA), a freshman congressman who also sits on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. He's quoted in the Times-Tribune questioning President Obama's Libya strategy, and lack of deference to Congress.

"The bottom line is I wish the president would have told us, talked to Congress about what is the plan. Is there a plan? Is the mission to take Gadhafi out?" Mr. Marino asked.... "Where does it stop?" he said. "Do we go into Africa next? I don't want to sound callous or cold, but this could go on indefinitely around the world."

Yes, Libya is in Africa.

GOP STILL CAN'T KEEP FROM BREAKING THE LAW!!

Prosecutors have charged a railroad magnate with making illegal campaign contributions to Republican Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's campaign.

Wisconsin & Southern Railroad Company chief executive William Gardner faces one count of excessive political contributions and one count of unlawful political contribution in Washington County. Both counts are felonies.

Gardner didn't immediately return a message left at his office.

Last May, Gardner apologized for using company money to reimburse employees' political donations to Walker. The governor, who was in the middle of a primary contest at the time, returned about $44,000 in contributions. Donating corporate money to political candidates is illegal in Wisconsin.

The Winners And Losers Of The GOP's First 100 Days In Power

Republicans have controlled the House of Representatives for just over 100 days. In that time, they've worked with Democrats to prevent a government shutdown, and worked alone to pass a budget. They've put the big entitlements on the table, and proposed slowly phasing out one of them -- Medicare -- altogether. In so doing, they've fundamentally shifted the center of the debate on Capitol Hill significantly to the right.

Along the way some individuals have enjoyed the limelight, others have suffered embarrassments, and yet more have just gone along for the ride. But in the end it's not about the personalities -- John Boehner, Harry Reid, or even Barack Obama. It's about the very things that have born the brunt of the impact of the new direction in Washington. Here are our top five winners and losers at the 100 day milestone.

THE BIGGEST LOSERS ARE WE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE...AND ESPECIALLY THE PEOPLE WHO VOTED REPUB OR TEA PARTY IN 2010 WITHOUT REALLY UNDERSTANDING THAT THEY WERE CUTTING THEIR OWN THROATS, UNLESS OF COURSE, THEY WERE AMONG THE AMERICAN ARISTOCRATS WHO DON'T HAVE TO PAY ANY TAXES!

FINALLY, ENSIGN'S CHICKENS COME HOME TO ROOST!!

John Ensign, philandering Republican dirtbag, has announced that he will resign his Nevada seat in the United States Senate on May 3rd due to an ethics investigation into an affair with a former campaign aide. Remember him? He's the slime-sucker who violated the trust of his best friend, cheated on his wife, had his family PAY MONEY TO KEEP THE WHOLE THING QUIET, and set up his friend as a lobbyist whose clients would get special pleading. A consummate piece of garbage...

About bloody time...

Wouldn't you know it???? This REPUBLICAN porker is from KENTUCKY!

'Prince Of Pork' Funneled $236M To His Nonprofit Groups

The new chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, Rep. Hal Rogers (R-KY), has funneled more than $236 million in federal funds to nonprofit groups he created since 2000, according to a new report by an ethics watchdog group.

Another $227 million in federal loans, grants and contracts went to a group of private firms linked to Rogers and the nonprofit companies, the report by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) found.

"During the past few months, there have been many glowing stories about Rep. Rogers, and how he has supposedly sworn off his porkish ways," CREW Executive Director Melanie Sloan said in a statement.

"CREW's research shows, however, this is not an accurate portrayal of the true Hal Rogers," Sloan said. "In reality, Rep. Rogers has built a fiefdom, where millions in federal funding can continue to be funneled to home state projects each year."

A spokeswoman for Rogers did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Politico received an early copy of the report.

The report finds that Rogers' family members, donors, business associates and former and current aides benefited personally from their relationship with the congressman. One example: his son John worked for a Kentucky company that received a $4 million contract from the Department of Homeland Security in 2004.

CREW's report also included a chart of Rogers' various relationships with the various companies and nonprofits mentioned in the report:

Here's a Real, Live Piece of Republican Garbage!

Earlier this year, Rhode Island House Minority Leader Robert A. Watson (R) garnered attention when he made insensitive remarks about the General Assembly’s work at a meeting of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce. Watson stated, “I suppose if you’re a gay man from Guatemala who gambles and smokes pot, you probably think that we’re onto some good ideas here.” He was quickly forced to apologize.

Yet last Friday Watson’s bigoted comment rose up and bit him on his hypocritical hind end: This Republican slime sucker was pulled over at a routine police checkpoint in East Haven, Connecticut. Police quickly arrested him when he appeared to be driving under the influence and possessing marijuana!!

Yuk, yuk.

They're virtually guaranteeing that they'll be wandering around the minority wilderness for a long, long time. Have you seen some of the polls on Daily Kos where they ask average people whether they like these fringe wingnuts? Overwhelmingly, they don't like them AT ALL; they're scared to death of the far right. And now, with the overwhelming backlash in Wisconsin, Ohio and several other places the GOP can no longer disguise their agenda.

I think that the election in 2012 is going to be genuine madness...

Yeah...What's up with "left wingers" in Indiana as well. Our local representative, Sheila Klinker, ended up camping out for weeks in Champaign Illinois, in voting AGAINST the collective bargaining rights of union workers in Indiana. (God bless her)

Unfortunately, the pressure must have overwhelmed her from the right, as planned parenthood turned out to be her latest causualty victim...

***QUOTE***

She explained her vote by saying that because she voted for the abortion bill when it initially left the House, she didn't believe she could vote against it when it returned to the chamber with the Planned Parenthood funding amendment added by the Senate.

Kinda reminds me of our government's official story regarding 19 hijackers on 911. Even though 15 were from Sudi Arabia, (or so they say) STILL, it's not as bad as accepting the fact, that our government was 100% behind these attacks.

What was Sheila thinking? That the 'filthy right" would somehow distinguish the difference between "cutting the deficit" and "cutting a woman's right to seek adequate medical treatment?"

(btw... our vial Mitch Daniels ended up signing this hate filled bill, nevertheless...no big surprise!!)

What many are saying about us Hoosiers here, is absolutely correct. Even during the first months of this year, Indiana politics has literally blazed it's own political path down it's own personal sewer. Choose your poison...

Mitch Daniels
Richard Lugar
Mike Pence
Todd Rokita
Greg Zoeller
Richard Mourdock
Sheila Klinker (democrat and coward state representative in my district)
Steve Buyer

You can almost cut the tension with a knife at times. In addition, I am a firm believer that most hoosiers here, are totally incapable of living anywhere else on this planet, because the majority of the masses don't think like we hoosiers do.

This in turn, MAY reduce the need to build additional mental health facilities in your area... :D

Good to see you, ETL... :D

I was reading the report at Huff Post about that idiot Rick Santorum's saying that he's afraid of a permanent welfare state! I'm afraid of Rick Santorum and others like him...they're all Repub teabaggers. Here's their ten commandments:

The Ten Commandments BAGGER version:

I. Thou shalt talk about Christian principles, but not live by them.

II. Thou shalt attack opponents personally when you can't win on policies.

III. Thou shalt call yourself pro-life, but be in favor of the death penalty.

IV. Thou shalt call yourself pro-life, and put guns in the hands of school
children.

V. Thou shalt give lip service to democracy while taking away civil
liberties.

VI. Profit is the Lord Thy God, thou shalt not put the people's interest
above those of your corporate contributors and personal greed.

VII. Thou shalt make sure fetuses have health coverage, but leave children
and babies behind.

VIII. Thou shalt bear false witness against your opponents and liberals, and
demonize them.

IX. Thou shalt induce fear and paranoia as a holy sacrament, to disguise your intentions.

X. Thou shalt call the media liberal, so that people forget that the media
is owned by corporations with a conservative fiscal agenda

I DON'T KNOW IF THIS FELLOW IS A MEMBER OF THE GOP, THE TEAPOTS, OR THE DEMS, BUT HE'S DEFINITELY A LIAR! THIS PREACHER HAD HIS CONGREGATION BELIEVING FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS THAT HE HAD BEEN A NAVY SEAL...!!!!!!!! :o

Pastor's Tale Of Navy SEAL Days Unravels After Bin Laden's Killing

After years of letting his congregation believe he'd once been a Navy SEAL, a Pennsylvania pastor's tale has come undone.

Last week, The Patriot-News newspaper, based in Harrisburg, reached out to former SEALs living in midstate Pennsylvania, hoping for some local perspective on the U.S. commando operation that killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan. Rev. Jim Moats, of Newville, obliged, and was featured in a story that ran in Saturday's edition. But it turns out Moats was never a SEAL, and the guilt-ridden pastor went to the paper's office on Sunday to fess up.

"I never was in a class, I never served as an actual SEAL. It was my dream," Moats, 59, who did serve in the Navy from 1970 to 1974, told the paper. "I don't even know if I would have met the qualifications. I never knew what the qualifications were."

Gov. Mitch Daniels: Chances of beating Obama 'quite good' :alien:

Republican Mitch Daniels, who is considering a run for the White House in 2012, said on Tuesday he thinks he can beat U.S. President Barack Obama but that is not a factor in his deliberations.

"I think the chances would actually be quite good," Daniels told reporters in Indiana. "That's really not a factor, I don't want to overstate this."

The Indiana governor, seen as a Republican heavyweight, has promised to make a decision soon about making a presidential run and said the support he is picking up is "quite awesome."

AND.....Giuliani could be 'talked into' running in 2012

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani admitted Friday that he can "probably be talked into" a run for the presidency.

While speaking to a group from the Republican National Lawyers Association at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., Giuliani asserted that his major goal is for a Republican to be elected as president in 2012.

But he wouldn't rule out his own bid when responding to the question of whether he will consider a run

GOP FRESHMEN ON MEDICARE ATTACKS: LET'S LET BYGONES BE BYGONES!

House Republican freshmen admit that their so-called "MediScare" attacks on Democrats helped them win a big majority in 2010. Democrats had voted for the health care law, which included $500 billion in "cuts" to Medicare -- primarily slashing overpayments to private insurers -- and Republican challengers never let them forget it.

Now, they say, it's time to let bygones be bygones.

Nearly a dozen House Republican freshmen held a press conference outside the Capitol Tuesday morning to "wipe the slate clean," and "hit the reset button."

"Yeah, I mean there's been -- again, this is a both-sides issue," said Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) when asked if GOP candidates and the NRCC had engaged in 'MediScare' tactics last year. "To say that one side is blameless in trying to use issues to win votes is just dishonest."

On Tuesday, Kinzinger and 41 of his colleagues sent a letter to President Obama, asking him to rein in Democratic attacks on GOP members who voted for the House budget, which includes a plan to privatize Medicare and cap spending on the program.

TEA BAGGER CONSTITUTIONAL INTERPRETATION...

Parents: This Fall, Beware Tea Partiers Dressed Up as James Madison

BY DOUG KENDALL

When I was growing up, my mom warned me each fall about Halloween candy with a hidden razor blade. As a parent, the thing I'll be most scared about this fall is the prospect of Tea Partiers coming to my child's school dressed up like James Madison to "teach" the U.S. Constitution.

It is undoubtedly the case that all our kids could use a good civics lesson, but these modern day Madisons are peddling snake oil, not real history. Mother Jones reported yesterday that, during Constitution Week in September this year, the so-called "Tea Party Patriots" are planning to pressure school boards across America to allow them into our schools to teach our children about the Constitution using materials from the National Center for Constitutional Studies, an organization founded by a genuinely scary individual named W. Cleon Skousen, a far-right conspiracy theorist with links to the John Birch Society who passed away in 2006.

As reported in both The New York Times and Mother Jones, NCCS materials and seminars -- at times led by instructors who dress up in period costume -- teach the views of Skousen, who concluded that "most federal regulatory agencies are unconstitutional, including the Environmental Protection Agency and the Federal Communications Commission," and who also called "for the repeal of the 16th and 17th Amendments, which he view[ed] as an affront to states' rights." Skousen also apparently wanted to repeal Social Security for the same reason.

ANGEL OF MERCY..WHATCHOO THINK ABOUT THE INFO INCLUDED BELOW:

Quote:
Under Bush 43, deficit spending topped $6 trillion, 10 million private sector jobs were outsourced overseas, pork spending exceeded $7 trillion, healthcare premiums increased 647%, pay-as-you-go was abandoned, CEO salaries increased 371%, the debt ceiling was raised 7 times, and we were duped into war, while the wealthy received unprecedented tax cuts, which many found perverse, even Read More... by Reagan standards. Republicans are media controlled, which is why—collectively—no elected republican will challenge the lies propagated by Rush. Having received millions in payoffs from parasitic insurers like UnitedDeathcare, republicans are fighting hard to repeal Obamacare, which is why republicans recently voted against a bill that would have made breast cancer screenings extremely affordable. Republicans have consistently voted against ending non-stimulative tax breaks for the wealthy, a decision I find unconscionable. Using reconciliation and money borrowed form China, republicans pushed through $1.4 trillion in tax cuts for the wealthy, while continuing to deride Obama’s stimulus plan, even though the Obama Stimulus has saved or created 4 million jobs and expanded the economy by 4.7%. With Bush 43 in the White House, Republicans extended unemployment insurance benefits a record 3 times, but in a purely political move designed to “destroy” Obama, Boehner and McConnell—citing the deficit they created as their reason—held working-class families hostage by refusing to extend unemployment insurance. On the backs of working-class Americans, republicans want to keep wealth and political power at the top, and edit out their duplicity for the current fiscal mess.
