I KNEW there was somebody he reminded me of...

Read how Romney says he will get the economy back on track...

I'LL CUT PBS

WASHINGTON -- In an interview with Fortune Magazine that was published on Wednesday morning, Mitt Romney gave a bit more detail than normal about how he would fulfill his promise to get the nation on track towards fiscal balance.

But the proposals he laid out largely ducked the so-called "painful" choices that experts insist must be made, and seemed to be drawn from rosy assumptions about the immediate political and economic future. At one point, Romney was asked to respond to a Tax Policy Center analysis that concluded he would need to take away tax benefits that primarily help the middle class if he wanted his broader proposals to be deficit neutral.

"They made garbage assumptions and they reached a garbage conclusion," he responded, noting that he has never called for reducing the deductions middle-income taxpayers enjoy on home mortgage interest, charitable giving and health care coverage (he would eliminate them for the rich).

But that only further highlighted his campaign's unwillingness to put out a detailed plan of its own. And it raised again the question of how his overall tax plan -- which extends the Bush tax cuts, reduces individual rates by 20 percent, eliminates taxes on investment income for middle- and lower income taxpayers, repeals the alternative minimum tax and gets rid of the estate tax -- wouldn't balloon the deficit.

Earlier this month, Mitt Romney was welcomed for a campaign event at the Century Mine in Beallsville, Ohio, by hundreds of coal workers and their families. Now many of the mine's workers are saying they were forced to give up a day-worth of pay to attend the event, and they feared they might be fired if they didn’t, according to local news radio WWVA.

The claims have been mostly denied by Rob Moore, Chief Financial Officer of Murray Energy Company, which owns the mine. He acknowledges that workers weren’t paid that day but says no one was made to attend the event. Well, kind of.

"Our managers communicated to our workforce that the attendance at the Romney event was mandatory, but no one was forced to attend," he told local news radio WWVA, which has received several emails from workers claiming that the company records names of workers that don't attend those types of events.

The company's interest in having its employees show support for Romney may be a result of its CEO's close ties with the presumptive Republican nominee. In May, Romney teamed up with Murray's CEO Bob Murray for a fundraising event in West Virginia. And Murray's made no secret of his support for the Republican party, previously backing Rick Perry.

In addition, his company has donated more than $900,000 to Republican candidates in the last two years, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

Quote:
THE ROMNEY MODEL, THE BAIN MODEL, THE VULTURE MODEL

does not recommend Romney as the Chief Executive of the Nation

- The Bain Model of acquisition and profit taking which uses Romney's self reported theory of "creative destruction" is the leveraged buy out and turn over.

- Risking very little of its own money, Bain organized the take over of a Read More...

- If it was healthy and was likely to get healthier, Bain accessed additional capital investors and using a strategy that focused on cutting costs through labor reductions, wage/benefit reductions, or out sourcing making the company more profitable and thus more attractive to a future buyer- about 2/3 of the businesses Bain tookover.

- For 1/3 of the Bain takeovers, an analysis revealed that the health of the company was iffy.

- In those cases, the strategy seemed he same - new money through loans and cutting costs but accompanied by the selling off or collaterizing of valuable assets.

- But in these cases, the new money became debt passed from one underwriter to another until it could no longer be carried.

- In these cases the dissolution of the company was the usual result.

- In both scenarios Bain did very well via management fees, fees for facilitating loans and sell offs, and when it sold off its interest.

In both of these scenarios Bain made promises to the middle and lower rank of employees and to the small investors that a Bain takeover was the first step in a process that would lead to the company's recovery and growth. Yes, they said, there would be some sacrifices but in the end all would be well.

Bain also made promises to top level management that they would be well taken care of - and they were- golden parachutes for them all. Those promises kept them quiet and cooperative.
I do not want the person who designed, oversaw and implemented this system in charge of our economy. I do not want him in the White House. It is that simple.

This is not venture capitalism, investment in a company to create a new life and energy in the creation of new products and services. It is, as a certain governor of Texas and a certain former Speaker of the House, called it- VULTURE CAPITALISM.

That will not build up our economy.
