Feith: Only ‘assholes’ are concerned about torture.
In his new Vanity Fair piece on torture, international lawyer Phillippe Sands interviews former Pentagon official Doug Feith, who “played a major role in developing the interrogation policy for Guantanamo Bay.” Feith tells Sands that he shouldn’t be concerned with torture and America’s “moral authority,” because then he is “siding with the assholes“:
“This year I was really a player,” Feith said, thinking back on 2002 and relishing the memory. I asked him whether, in the end, he was at all concerned that the Geneva decision might have diminished America’s moral authority. He was not. “The problem with moral authority,” he said, was “people who should know better, like yourself, siding with the assholes, to put it crudely.”
Many good comments follow.
With torture meaning nothing, the trip to a million dead Iraqis meaning nothing as well is very short indeed.

This administration is proof that sometimes shit rises to the top rather than cream.

..and this story certainly doesn't improve the administration's image:
[url=http://www.rawstory.com/news/mochila/U_S_extends_Blackwater_s_Baghdad_wo_04042008.html]US extends Blackwater's Baghdad work for one year
U.S. private security firm Blackwater's deal to protect American diplomats in Baghdad will be extended for a year while the FBI investigates a 2007 incident in which the company's guards are accused of killing 17 Iraqis, the State Department said on Friday.
"I have requested and received approval to have task order six -- which Blackwater has to provide personal protective services in Baghdad -- renewed ... for one year," the head of diplomatic security, Gregory Starr, told reporters.
The September 2005 shooting incident in Baghdad enraged the Iraqi government and triggered an investigation by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation into what happened and whether any crimes might have been committed.
Is it any wonder they hate us?
