Not to make excuses but let me say this happens many times and not just for soldiers with mental problems.

It does not say if he was out on something called a Temp Retirement. If he was then he was seen by the VA at least once a year to evaluate his condition. At the end of a five year period the VA had to rate him as permanently disabled or fit for duty. You would be amazed at how many the VA rates fit for duty.

If he is found fit he has a choice. Not to go back into the military and lose all the years he put in or go back in and retired normally. He has NO OTHER choice.

I know this for a fact. It happened to me. I won't go into detail but it has to do with doctors. If doctors say your fit, your fit, nothing commanders can do about it. I had a commander that I happened to know and she knew about by illness. She took care of me. Did not let me go to the field, put me in jobs that did not hurt me physically etc.

Help me greatly and then she left. I had hell for a year before I retired. Was hospilized, lost my kids etc. Then a Sgt Major took me under his wing and I finished my tour, got my kids back and felt better.

This guy needs to fight and fight and people need to understand that VA doctors do what they are suppose to do, work for the government.

I remember when life wasn't filled with terrorists--of all stripes.
