Retired British generals slam U.S. over Iraq

Quote:
“Right from the very beginning we were all very concerned about the lack of detail that had gone into the postwar plan and there is no doubt that Rumsfeld was at the heart of that process,” Cross said in the Sunday Mirror newspaper.

Quote:
The comments come a day after the release of critical comments made by the general who led the British army during the Iraq invasion.

'Intellectually bankrupt'

Retired Gen. Sir Mike Jackson also singled out Rumsfeld for criticism, saying his approach to the invasion was “intellectually bankrupt,” according to quotes excerpted from his autobiography and published by The Daily Telegraph Saturday.

The entire Bush cabinet is intellectually and morally bankrupt...we've known that since 2000!

He's a fugged bloke, that Bush is.

From the Mirror, you get more.
Quote:
"He didn't want to hear that message. The U.S. had already convinced themselves that Iraq would emerge reasonably quickly as a stable democracy," Cross told the Sunday Mirror.

"Anybody who tried to tell them anything that challenged that idea -- they simply shut it out," Cross, the most senior British officer involved in planning post-war Iraq, added.

The Mirror also reminds us that it was British General Mike Jackson that say that Rumsfeld was "intellectually bankrupt". That's a slam on Rummy who prides himself on that known-unknowns kind of wit.

It still bums me out that nothing is ever said by these people UNTIL they've got a book to promote! I'm sure they're telling the truth, but wouldn't it have been so much better if they'd raised a hue and cry back when it might have actually made a difference?

I agree. But the timing is still alright, as it just adds more fuel to the anti-Bush burning fire.

Correct...I guess SOMETHING is better than NOTHING in this case, even if it is a bit late.

Ah, but remember PNAC. No one had a chance to get anything through because PNAC was running the administration, and they had it planned to have a century of war.

I wonder how much of Bush's "surprise" visit to Iraq was staged with those smiling, clapping troops! Shades of John McCain's "walk!"
