Republican Senator Rick Santorum defended a new campaign commercial which combines images of his Democratic challenger Bob Casey, "Axis of Evil" leaders and "mushroom clouds," during a cable news appearance earlier today.

(Remember, Axis of Evil is a Bush term....and not necessarily true. I happen to think that Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld are in a League of Evil all their own.)

"You've had some really aggressive ads," MSNBC's Rita Crosby said to the Pennsylvania Senator who is trailing Casey by 12 percent in the latest MSNBC-McClatchy poll.

Cosby said that "a lot of jaws dropped" at the mushroom cloud ad, which she then showed a clip from.

Santorum is worse than Cheney for trying to scare the sheeple!

I think this is yet another example of desperation tactics by Rick Santorum, who is in deep trouble. I would argue that the Santorum campaign will try to throw out anything it can between now and election day..

However, I think that the voters will see past Santorum's tactics. The problem with the fear tactics that the GOP has used in the past is that it gets very repetetive, and loses its effectiveness over time.
