Sheehan announces House candidacy

Looks like Cindy is going to do it...I wish her the best of luck.

SAN FRANCISCO - A tearful Cindy Sheehan cited her son, killed in Iraq, as her inspiration as she announced her candidacy Thursday for the U.S. House against Rep. Nancy Pelosi.

Sheehan last month said she intended to run against Pelosi, the House speaker, if the San Francisco congresswoman didn't move to impeach President Bush by July 23.

Sheehan said Thursday that Pelosi had "protected the status quo" of the corporate elite and had lost touch with people in her district, most of whom, she asserted, want American troops out of Iraq.

Nadeam Elshami, a spokesman for Pelosi, would not comment on Sheehan's candidacy but said the speaker has always opposed the war in Iraq and has focused on bringing troops home "safely and soon."

Is the July 23 date a misprint and should be August 23? :?

Does Cindy have a decent chance? I can make a couple small contributions/month to good causes. I try to exercise diligence with limited funds.

Bush may not have a recession going on but I sure do.

Cindy is running as a “Decline To State” in the 8th Congressional District of California.

The 8th Congressional District makes up most of the city of San Francisco except for the southwestern parts of the city.

I worked four precincts recently. That was stretching. I am enjoying some time off. I may get re-involved this summer.

Did another Kucinich contribution today though, I just like them in spite of not being into big government myself. I don't know for sure that they are....the accusation has been made.

An accusation in politics. Imagine that.

Cindy Sheehan's uphill battle.

Sheehan is at a substantial disadvantage in funding
but believes her human resources and
antiwar message will help her topple the incumbent,
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi

While Sheehan's race for the House is almost hopeless, the cost of running for the US Senate is totally out of reach for her. I too wonder what has happened to the Diane Feinstein that announced Milk's and Moscone's assassinations on the steps of San Francisco's City Hall. The lives Pelosi has cost by taking impeachment off the table are unforgivable.

Cindy Sheehan Makes Bid for Pelosi’s House Seat

It’s not going to be an easy campaign, but anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan has made good on her pledge to try to take over Nancy Pelosi’s congressional seat this fall. Sheehan filed Friday to run for the House in Pelosi’s San Francisco district—but she has to collect over 10,000 signatures before she can make her bid official.

More at the link. The COMNENTS at the link are very much in favor of Cindy. At least a few Californians are fed up with Pelosi.
