In spite of the best efforts of the socialist left, Americans seem to understand the value of competition. They realize that if only one type of automobile was available in this country it would be hardly worth buying. If government owned all housing, the housing would be bleak and depressing. Americans are coming to understand that the solution to our hideous system of education is competition. End the government monopoly on education. The quickest way to introduce competitive pressures into the marketplace would be to introduce a system of vouchers. Allow parents the freedom to chose what school their child will attend, and to use the government-issued voucher to pay for their child's education in the school of their choice, private or government.
The education establishment is, of course, opposed. This goes double for the teacher's unions. They love their monopoly, and don't want to be put in a position of having to compete. So, when the left is opposed to an idea, you can bet they'll pull out their usual rhetoric in their fight. The "usual rhetoric," of course, includes raising the issue of the evil, hated rich.
