That was sad. I saw Nellie Connelly on Larry King one night a couple of years ago. She was frail, but still a firecracker. She remembered so much about that day, especially the last thing she'd said to President Kennedy just before the shots were fired.

Lady Bird Johnson is still alive, although she's got to be in her late 80s. Of course, she wasn't in that limo. I believe the Kennedy limo is in Dearborn, Michigan at the Henry Ford Museum. Correct me if I'm wrong, PL.

From http://www.jfklancer.com/Limousine.html
1961 Lincoln Continental Four-door convertible limousine, VIN # 1Y86H405950 JFK was riding in when he was assassinated. Quite possibly the most famous and controversial automobile in modern history. The car was custom built by Hess and Eisenhardt and was known as the X-100.

At the time of the assassination, the car was painted dark blue and had a 1962 grille. It was later returned to H and E for extensive modifications, including armor plating, and the custom fitted front bumper cone lights were removed and replaced with simple chrome bumper plugs, and the limo was repainted black at the request of President Johnson. The limousine is now at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan

Very good memory Catherine!

The Kennedy Assassination was the defining moment of my childhood, PL.. I remember everything about those four days as though they happened yesterday. I had a marvelous teacher at that time who brought me all of his newspapers, and I created a scrapbook from the clippings.

I have kept journals and diaries since I was about 8, and I still have the journal in which I wrote my reactions and thoughts of that historic time. It's fun to read the words of a 12 year old, but it's also neat to realize that I was a pretty smart kid who was on her way to a lifetime love affair with history! :P

Cat-

I have always viewed the JFK assassination as the defining moment of my life not just childhood. I was 9 in the fourth grade and remember those days like they were yesterday. During my teen years and early adulthood, I tried to connect with people by finding out what they were doing when they heard about the assassination. I knew when I meet someone who had no idea, I was talking to someone I had little chance of ever connecting with or just a plain dullard.

I was attending a Catholic grade school and we went to Mass everyday just before lunch. While we were exiting, a priest called us all back and told us President Kennedy had been shot. We then knelt down and said a rosary for him. At the end of the rosary, another priest announced JFK had died. We ate lunch and classes were cancelled until Tuesday. It was the first time in my memory where the broadcast television stations did not go off the air at night but stayed on continuously without commercials until after the funeral on Monday. My parents were amazed by the fact it was the only time they had heard of the casinos in Nevada closing. I also have very fond memories of my dad and I baking fruitcakes all weekend long and I have been a fan of them since.

My dad had taken me to see JFK on his only campaign stop in Arizona. His plane landed and taxied over to the area where we were standing. He gave his speech from the foot of the stairs leading up into the plane. It was 2 or 3 AM and everyone cheered and clapped for nearly every sentence if not word.
