Where I live there are quite a few bald eagles, but I still am awed each time I see one. There is an eagle nest just off the road I travel into town. They had two eaglets born this spring and it was fun to see them in the next and to see them finally fly. However, I have only noticed one eaglet for quite some time now. As my son and I were driving by tonight I commented on it. My son told me that if there are more then one eaglet born usually the dominant one will kill the other. How horrible! Of course I didn't want to belive this so looked up bald eagles on the internet when we got home. Yep, that is what it said. How strange and sad nature can be. Here's the link I read.

That's really neat. I've never seen one with my own eyes. I am guessing that the dominant one kills in order to have a better pick of mates. Its awesome that you can actually drive by them and watch. Simply amazing. Also, I appreciate the website you linked to...I'm going to get lost reading on there for a while.

Yes it is very neat. Aren't there any bald eagles where you live? I thought they were everywhere in the US. My parents live right next to a lake and once while sitting on their deck one kept flying just above my head (maybe 20 feet) searching for fish. We watched two last winter through a telescope sitting on the lake (lake was frozen) where my father had left some fish guts for them after ice fishing. Just beautiful they are. It was so odd to just see them sit there for such a long time. I suppose however what else did they have to do.

Back in May and June I kept this cam open on my computer and watched the parents feed the babies. It was amazing!

we have hawks around here....does that count?

I watched the video quite a bit. It was cool. Ahhhhhhh sure we can count a hawk as an eagle if you want. Hawks are cool. Both are raptors.

well, i like to watch the bats fly around at dusk. if i throw a stone into the air, they actually chase it thinking it's a flying bug.
