Murder Suspect's Car Sighted
The stolen car police believe John "Woody" Woodring drove away from a crime scene is spotted in Knoxville, Tennessee at a Greyhound Bus Station.

A worker there says it has been in the parking lot since last Tuesday.

That was the morning after investigators say he shot and killed his estranged wife Bonnie, at a Jackson County domestic violence shelter.

SBI investigators briefly searched the car this morning and towed it back to Asheville where they are supposed to do a more extensive search later today.

The Federal Bureau Of Investigation is also now involved in the search.

The FBI is now involved since they located the car. The workers at the Bus Terminal in Knoxville, TN said it's been there since last Tuesday, the day after he murdered his estranged wife.

Thank you, wildy, for posting the updates. I hope they catch this man very, very soon. I think he's an Eric Rudolph wannabe!

Woodring case goes prime-time
by Jon Ostendorff, jostendorff@citizen-times.com

SYLVA – Investigators hope the pressure of a prime-time television show with millions of viewers will give them the break they need to capture fugitive John “Woody” Raymond Woodring.

A search of a car police believe he stole before shooting his wife to death inside a shelter for abused women revealed no clues to his whereabouts, said Sylva Police Chief Jeff Jamison on Wednesday. The 35-year-old has been on the run since Sept. 18.

“America’s Most Wanted” plans to feature the Woodring case Saturday night. The show airs on Fox at 9 p.m.

“Anytime you can get the public engaged, it helps our efforts,” said Rick Schwein, supervisor of the FBI office in Asheville. The agency is assisting with the manhunt.

YOU CAN GO HERE AND SEE THE ONLINE MEMORIAL OF BONNIE WILSON:

http://www.mem.com/

Go to SEARCH and type in the last name of WILSON. Her memorial begins on page 6.

I've been told that the family of Bonnie Woodring did not want to bury her under the name of Woodring. She was buried in Houston, Texas under the name of Bonnie Wilson.

As of today, the fugitive who murdered her has not been found.

WEB UPDATE - 11/2/2006

Murder suspect John “Woody” Woodring was found dead Wednesday morning on a houseboat docked on Fontana Lake in Graham County.

Initial reports indicate Woodring died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Witnesses said a suicide note was found near his body.

The owner of the houseboat and a friend found the body while closing the houseboat for the season. It was not immediately clear how long Woodring had been dead.

Woodring, 35, was charged with first-degree murder in the Sept. 18 death of his 48-year-old estranged wife, Bonnie Woodring, at the REACH domestic violence shelter in Sylva. Authorities said Woody Woodring forced his way into the shelter, and shot Bonnie Woodring with a shotgun. Bonnie Woodring had been staying at the shelter for several days following the issuance of a domestic violence protective order against Woody Woodring.

A car believed stolen by Woody Woodring was found about a week later near a bus terminal in Knoxville, Tenn.

The case has drawn national media attention and has been featured on television programs including “America’s Most Wanted” and “Larry King Live.”

While numerous tips had been received since the “America’s Most Wanted” episode aired, there had been no confirmed sightings of Woodring since the murder.

Reports following the discovery of his body indicate Woodring may have been in the Fontana area for at least two weeks. A vehicle stolen from Tennessee was found nearby, and break-ins had been reported at several houseboats.

Woody and Bonnie Woodring owned a houseboat that was docked in the area where his body was found.

At least the cowardly bastard is gone and there won't be a trial...I'm surprised he wasn't discovered sooner if he's been in that houseboat a long time. Fontana Lake is one of the more popular places with the weekend crowds coming over from TN and up from Atlanta, GA. We've had a lot of very warm weather since Woodring went missing in September, too.

Interesting...Woodring must have remembered the final actions of the man who shot Versace!

Looks like Bonnie Woodring's family is suing the REACH shelter in Sylva, NC:

Woodring family suit: Shelter failed

SYLVA — The family of Bonnie Woodring claims in a lawsuit that the domestic violence shelter where she sought refuge from her abusive husband failed to take adequate safety precautions that would have prevented her murder.

REACH of Jackson County did not provide enough security, lighting or alarms at the Sylva shelter and did not keep the facility’s location hidden from potentially dangerous men, according to the suit filed in Jackson County Superior Court.

“Had defendant done these things, Bonnie Woodring would not have been murdered,” the lawsuit states.

Woodring, 48, was gunned down by her husband, John “Woody” Woodring, after he pushed his way into the shelter on the evening of Sept. 18 with a sawed-off shotgun. The woman’s 13-year-old son from a previous marriage, Jeffery Mertz, also was inside.

Interesting discrepancy between this follow-up and the initial report about how the perp actually died. First story says he died from a self-inflicted shotgun blast and that a suicide note was found with his body. The story linked above says the perp died of a heart attack! :?

I'm not so sure that I agree with the judge's ruling, either!
