Open-ended stories are lots of fun to read and to write. If the topic is controversial, so much the better. It tends to make our creative juices start to flow more easily. :D

Here's an open-ended story about cross-dressing. (..remember that marvelous movie entitled
"To Wong Foo. Thanks for Everything!" ?)

A mother and her young son were clothes-shopping in the Boys’ section of McCloskey’s department store. The mother was hunched over the clothes racks, sliding the hangers down the metal rod. The boy was looking longingly at the girl’s clothes section.

‘Can I please go look at the girl clothes?’ he asked.

‘No,’ his mother said. ‘Jesus. Hell no.’

‘But I want to look at the pretty dresses.’

‘You’re getting a sweater with a football on it and that is final.’

‘But…’

‘FINAL!'...

WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?

The boy stomped his feet and said mom. I don't want to wear a boys sweater with a football on it. My friends all make fun of me already because of the way you make me dress.

You make me dress like a boy and you make Jim dress like a girl. Mom Jim is a boy and I am a girl.

The mother looked at her young son for a long moment, then she said..."No, I'm afraid you're wrong..you've gotten that all mixed up, as usual, and that's what I'm trying to correct.

You're Jim!"
