Feng Shui Expert
Balancing Cats and Holidays

Since receiving her first kitten as a little girl, Carole Hyder has never been cat-less. She looks to cats for companionship and comfort. She also admires how they can help their owners create a balanced haven for the entire family, even during the bustling holidays.

A natural affinity

As an accomplished feng shui consultant, Carole helps her clients use the principles of feng shui to achieve harmony and balance in their homes. Feng shui? It's the art of dealing with the structure and flow of living spaces. And how do cats figure in? "Cats are naturally drawn toward the flow of energy in a home and many of the common principles of feng shui," says Carole.

First steps for holiday harmony

Carole suggests keeping the house as tidy as possible at all times. A cat that can roam freely in a clutter-free house can help bring a well-balanced flow of energy to your home.

If she's reluctant to enter a room, see if there's something there that needs to be moved out or a lingering memory that makes you sad. She could be picking up on your feelings and may not enjoy the space until you yourself can.

Try organizing your furniture in an octagonal shape for optimal conversation. Both you and your cat are likely to benefit from the harmony of your family and guests communicating well.

And, well before the holiday activities get underway, create a private refuge for your cat, somewhere with a litter box, food dishes, and a warm place to curl up, where she can retreat and reenergize. You might consider joining her there at times to reflect and center yourself and to take advantage of the comfort a quiet retreat can provide.

I've found when trying to balance cats, that it is neccessary that they both be of similar weight... but it sounds a lot like trying to herd cats...

Hmm, as I look around I see a cat to the side of me, sound asleep. A cat in front of me, sound asleep. A cat behind me, sound asleep.

Maybe that is my problem, there just ISN'T any energy to flow around here!

But I like the site, thank you Catherine.
