Retired officer thinks the war on drugs is counterproductive, especially regarding marijuana.

What has made them even more furious is the fact that, until recently, the man who made it was one of the most experienced narcotics officers in the Texas police force.

Just how hypocritical can we get? We have the 'War on Drugs' that is talked about incessantly, yet every other ad on TV is for a drug. We are at war while society is the biggest pusher of all. (Yes, I know it is the drug companies themselves, but society allows it.)

Marijuana is no more harmful than alcohol yet one is celebrated by society, the other gets users jailed.

What a goofy country!

There used to be a Smirking Chimp member who was a very strong advocate of legalizing marijuana...do you remember who that was, dori? He had done almost as much research on that topic as rigster had on the voting machines. He always provided links to his info, too...very good ones.

Actually there were several but at this point I don't remember their nicknames. I did take one of the links though, and have kept up with the news somewhat.

This is that organization's plans for 2007. They have been doing a lot of good work. I would like to see marijuana legalized at least for medicinal purposes. It is far too cruel to make people suffer more than they need to.

And certainly hemp should be grown as a renewable crop to ease the cutting of old growth trees for paper. What a waste!
