Army urged dead soldiers to return to duty
Recruitment letters mistakenly sent to 275 dead, wounded officers

WASHINGTON - The Army said Friday it would apologize to the families of about 275 officers killed or wounded in action who were mistakenly sent letters urging them to return to active duty.

The letters were sent a few days after Christmas to more than 5,100 Army officers who had recently left the service. Included were letters to about 75 officers killed in action and about 200 wounded in action. The 75 represent more than one-third of all Army officers who have died in Iraq since the war began.

“Army personnel officials are contacting those officers’ families now to personally apologize for erroneously sending the letters,” the Army said in a brief news release issued Friday night.

I'm positive the group of people sending out the "return notices", are probably appointed by the Bush administration. It figures!!!!.

What an embarrassment to our government, known the Army can goof up so badly as this. Plus the fact, how it may hurt the families of the dead.

If someone had told me forty years ago how this country of ours was going to be run, I wouldn't have believe them... I, now wonder what it will be like 20 years from now..

I'm sure you are more aware of the military's goof-ups than some of us, King Fisher.

What I find the most amazing is that, even though we have weapons that can "surgically" remove a target, the Pentagon can't manage to prevent these kinds of mistakes from happening. This is personal, and the military should be as good at taking care of personal details like this as they are at bombings and invasions. But, then...the invasions haven't been going too well lately either, have they?
