Texas Governor Ignores the Zealots

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) has issued an executive order mandating the use of the HPV vaccine, which can help prevent cervical cancer. The conservative Christian’s decree trumps opposition in the Legislature and elsewhere from opponents who feel the treatment encourages premarital sex. Texas will be the first state to require that schoolgirls receive the vaccine.

The zealots need to understand that sexual activity takes place in America outside marriage and that marriage doesn't prevent cervical cancer.

Couple things to think about.

The vaccine still has yet to be tested for long term effects.

Its only going to be administered to girls.

It should be free and available, but not mandatory just yet.

There may be some Perry-Murky Hanky Panky Going on regarding this issue...

Texas Governor Perry took Merck money before mandating cervical vaccine

David Edwards and Mike Sheehan
Thursday February 22, 2007

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) says that it's just a coincidence that he and eight other lawmakers received donations of $5,000 each from Merck lobbyists just a few days before mandating the drug giant's HPV cervical cancer vaccine for all females in Texas ages 12 and up.

"There's been a lot of pressure about the implications of vaccinating young girls against sexually-transmitted diseases," says CNN's Ali Velshi in the video below, "some people thinking that that encourages promiscuity at that age."

He reports though that "this thing is coming undone by word, rumor and report of connection between Rick Perry's office and Merck."

The main lobbyist for Merck previously worked as Chief of Staff for Gov. Rick Perry. Several other states are considering making the vaccine mandatory, thanks in part to Merck's aaggressive lobbying.

CNN's coverage can be viewed below. The Associated Press offered further details at this link.

Looks like nygg was on top of this issue. The things these senators do is just a reminder of how badly our system is in need of revision, from top to bottom.

Hiring bosom buddies is the best way. Just ask Bush about his similar incompetant friends working in the highest offices in the land. BFF- money!

I have a feeling that is what the mandated vaccinations are about.
